    Short one

    I have a client that loves my work. She never argues with my prices and tells everyone how awesome my work is.

    She's supposed to drop off a quilt today. At 4pm. Right now it's 6pm. I guess she decided to go out to dinner first.

    And she wants the quilt finished on Sunday. And I still have to buy the backing fabric.



    No response to my phone calls and she's admitted that my emails go into her spam filter and she "doesn't feel like messing with it."

      If she does show up, feel free to tell her that her project is gonna go to the same place as the emails you send her I hope she's paying up front...

      That's pretty damn fast for anything larger than say, a baby blanket, is it not? And even that assumes getting all materials and designs in time. That ship has sailed, it appears.

        It's a lap size quilt, not as large as a bed size. Originally she told me the due date was Feb 4th. She did call and ask me if I could have it done on Sunday and if that wasn't any trouble. I told her "As long as you get it to me before 5pm on Friday."

        She has the top layer of the quilt done, I just need to purchase the backing and sew the layers together. Just means I will be stuck to the sewing machine nearly all day tomorrow.

          You need to give her two choices:

          1) Since you didn't get it to me on time your deadline will not be met.
          2) You still need to meet the deadline? My prices just doubled.

          And all payment up front, of course!

            Ahhh -- I thought you mean that she was just gonna hand you a pattern and a bunch of materials to make something from scratch. It's still on her to get you the mats, though.

                I woke up to 2 texts from her. The first one at 8:30 saying that she sorry that she forgot and she'll finish up the quilt top right now. The second message was at 10 am saying that the top is finished and she's heading my way. She lives 5 miles away. It's nearly 11am now.

                    However I did explain to her that I may not have it done by Sunday evening.

                      So, she does quilting herself and still doesn't comprehend how long it takes?! We expect that ignorance from non-sewers, but from someone who does it herself, that's inexcusable. I mean, if there was an emergency, like hospitalization, that's one thing. But it sounds like she's just blowing this off, especially with that "whatever" comment.

                          Sounds like Customer Standard Time strikes again.

                          Service provider: I can get $small_job finished for you by $cust_deadline if you get it to me by $serv_deadline

                          Customer expectations: Service provider can do $large_job if I drop it off halfway between $serv_deadline and $cust_deadline.

                            When I went to go buy the backing fabric the clerk at the store said she was in yesterday afternoon to buy the border fabric.

                            So when she told me on Thursday that she had the quilt top done she was lying - and instead of telling me that she still needed to put the border on - she made me think that she was still going to come by my house to drop it off Friday night!

                            Bottom line with this person - Her time is valuable - my time is not.

                              I'd add a day or two... Or three...to your estimate of how long it would take you to finish. Make *her* wait. Because that's ridiculous
