However, after a bit of digging around to get the brand name of it, I managed to find out that it was first registered on the 20th of January 1987 and it tax expired in January of 2007 so that dilapidated old wreck must have been taken off the road some time around then. Which would be about right for the time when all of us were standing in Supermart debating what to do about the fact a Jalopy travel bus had exploded. We could see the state of the vehicles that came onto the forecourt. When you can hear an engine having to struggle to keep itself ticking over on idle, when an automatic transmission is kangaroo-hopping as it pulls out, When you see the speedometer needle bouncing up and down through a 20MPH range even though the bus is maintaining a constant speed (many of us rode the bus to work and the main operator for that route at the time was Jalopy travel) then it's clear there's serious mechanical faults with the vehicles. We didn't want a fire on our forecourt.
