So at our check-in desk, it's basically a nice long counter with 3 stations. And this happens:
Me: *going through my spiel as I check in a guest."
SC: *walks up next to the guest I am checking in and tries to hand me a credit card* "Hi I'm checking in."
Me:
"I'll be with you in a moment after I'm done assisting this guest."
I wish I was exaggerating, but this happens to me weekly.
I also get guests who will walk up with their print-out of their confirmation, stand right next to whoever I am checking in, and they'll have their confirmation on the counter and slowly start inching it across toward me. Like they're waiting for me to take it while I am still checking in another guest. This is almost a daily occurrence; on busy days it happens multiple times! Again, I wish I was exaggerating, but I'm not.
I finally broke down and asked my coworker if it was just me, or did this happen all the time, and she agreed that it happened to her all the time and that it was strange.
When I worked at the motel, we had a similar counter set-up, but I never encountered this phenomenon with such frequency; maybe every other month I'd get someone who was so impatient and pushy, but people generally waited their turn in line. I know guests at The Resort tend to be more entitled than guests at The Cheap Motel, but geez.
I try to always acknowledge guests with an "I'll be with you in a moment" when I'm busy, but that does not mean they get to come up and start shoving their stuff in my face while I'm checking in another guest!
This happens all the damn time. What the hell is with people?
