I'm watching SCO yesterday. I'm in the front aisle next to an endcap; I hate being in the aisle, but it was better than way up front and the hot and humid draft every time the door opened. I did get a bit of flack from ASM for carrying a bottle of water (bit too big to fit in my pocket) but
...water fountain's all the way in the back of the store, what do you want me to do?
A regular who I don't see a lot anymore because of my schedule came down the aisle (CR) and we chatted a bit. Then two crusty old guys approached (some locals known for scamming and general rudeness around here).
SC1: "You help us! He [SC2] looking for sauce!"
Me: "Pasta sauce is in aisle 5 and hot sauce is in 2."
SC2: "No! Stupid! Sauce for clean! Clean metal!"
...I can kinda figure out what he wants, but after the 'stupid' crack?
Me: "Aisle 7."
SC1: "No! You show! *goes to grab me; CR moves to block him* "You show where!"
Me: "No. I can't leave this area. Go to the service desk, they'll find someone to show you."
SC2: "Why?"
Me: "Because that's what the desk does, finds people." [CR chuckles, SC glares at him but he continues grinning] "Because I can't leave."
SC2: "Why?"
Me: "I need to stay here."
SC2: "Why? You not helpful?" [are you related to an SC I dealt with way back when? She said the exact same thing]
CR: "She's doing her job and doesn't have time to help you. See this mess up here? She watches this all by herself."
SC1 looks around, nearly getting flattened by someone dashing to an SCO where someone else is waiting and I have to go over to help with something. "No! You show! You help her but I was first!"
*so you can talk...*
CR: [imitating SC's accent and tone] "No! You go! *points to the desk* Another customer nearly drops a carton of eggs laughing.
The SCs stomp off to the desk and corner a new manager who just started here a few hours before...this is gonna be good. I can't hear the entire conversation, but SC1 is still asking for "clean metal sauce"; new manager either really doesn't know what SC wants, or has figured it out but is playing dumb so as to not inflict SC on any of the part-timers. Both SCs then point to me...new manager tells them that my job is to stand there (implying that he knew they were trying to get me in trouble). SC1 tries to say that CR told him off...as CR isn't an employee there is nothing that manager can do
CR: "Damn, some people are real jerks aren't they?" [voice raised, looking directly at SCs] "Sorry they tried to ruin your day."
Me: "Thanks for telling them off; I'd get talked to for doing that."
CR: "Can't do anything to me though."
