I heard this multiple times yesterday. For a little background, we had a storm system that came through that brought floods and downed trees, power and cable lines. Yesterday I had several customers call in because their generator was working to power the tv but the cable was not working. They really pissed me off by complaining about the cable being off when some people out there (my parents) have lost everything.

I'm going to assume that the signal passes through powered junctions and power outages means no signal. (generators can die, folks)Wish more people would exercise their brains..
When I worked at MW repair, we'd get people calling in about their fridge not working.. while the power was still out at their homes. As in, no generator, nothing. Of course your fridge isn't work! The thing runs on that magic juice that flows out of the walls. No magic juice in the walls means no working fridge! If I make no sense, I apologize. I'm constantly interrupted by an actual toddler.

Quoth Buzzard View PostMore likely, the poles and/or the LINES on the poles have come down in places. TV cable runs below power wire. If something's taken out the power (branch falling, pole falling, etc.) then the cable's likely taken down too.
Whatever happened to having a digital antenna as a back up so you can at least get local channels? My brother has a digital box for his tv in case for some reason our satellite service gets knocked off. And my tv in the office has a built in tuner and I've got an antenna hooked up and I can pull in regular stations at least (can't get MeTv with satellite).
I guess we're strange that way . . . we have back up plans for darn near everything.Human Resources - the adult version of "I'm telling Mom." - Agent Anthony "Tony" DiNozzo (NCIS)
