  • I was called something new today!!!

First, I'm not Spanish. Second, where I work isn't predominantly Spanish (like it is further south).

With that aside, a customer called me a "tida flecha" (sp?). Literally translates to "arrow thrower".

It is meant as a derogatory term towards people who live in Mexico, Central America and South America who are descendants of the Incas, Mayans, and Aztecs (etc..) and they are not descendants of the Spanish conquorers.

The closest thing in English would be "redneck" but that term is way too nice to be compared to 'tida flecha'.

Does that mean you can bring a bow and arrow to work with you every day?

So, basically it's the Centra/South American indiginous equivalent for "spear chucker."

      Lovely.

Spear chucking is an art form for the highly skilled. Personally, I would take it as a compliment.

Ever try to chuck a spear with enough force and accuracy to take down a moving target? Definitely takes skill. Doncha love when you think about insults long enough to realize that they aren't really an insult at all? (Yes, I got picked on a lot in school, I analyze everything I'm ever called).

          *snicker*

Yeah, I used to deconstruct the crap people said to me while I was in school, too.

They'd usually wander off with a flippant "whatever" after a few seconds.

Actually, I still do that these days. I get a lot of confused stares....

I can't even bring in my wife's service dog to work, I don't think so.

                Wow.......

Was the idiot assuming you were of Spanish decent or something?

I've taught everyone at work that I am friends with to nickname me as "Fraulein" in front of the old bitties who keep calling me a "Dumb Swede". If you're going to insult my heritage, make sure you know what it is before you open your stupid fat mouth.
