You mean snow doesn't fall upside down in Australia?

Canada doesn't have snow on the ground for 11-1/2 months of the year?

        New Mexico isn't another country?

If you don't mind my asking, just why is it Australia and New Zealand have such a thing about each other? I've been firmly corrected by people from each country when I mistook that person as being from the other, and usually with a sneer at the country that person was not from.

meh its a friendly rivalry, much like the Canada/ America one

Aussies and Kiwis's when you get down to brass tacks, will always be there for one another, we have fought together (the ANZAC's) in every war except the current one (NZ is only doing peace keeping and rebuilding while Aus is doing active combat duty as well) we even have a shared public holiday in which we remember the ANZACS... heck we even have a trans-tasman cookie!

Ive never met a kiwi who truely hated and aussie and vice versa (although there could well be) mostly its just friendly ribbing, both countries developed VERY closely both timewise and culturally. Its a hard thing to explain.... we both lay claim to the same bands, food, inventions, slang, and even people (eg pavlova, jandels(thongs), russell crowe)

actually aussies you cant keep Rus

The issue that BOTH countries have when being mistaken for the other is...its annoying, like a customer asking if your open 20 times a week... it gets OLD FAST. Its like your culture isnt important enough to be independant...like if you ask a Canadian what state they are from....or a Scotman what part of England they are from...90% of the time its just an eyerolled "here we go again"...

can the other aussies and kiwis on the board help me out here...explain it a little better?

by the way sorry to thread jack!!

come on Kiwi we all know Australia wouldn't want ya

seriously i think the relationship between australia and new zealand is best described in terms of brothers - theres rivalry there of course (see the bledisloe cup), but when it comes down to it we stick together (ANZACS). I guess it's also part of the sense of humour we have down in this part of the world, especilly with the sheep shagging jokes going back and forth.

Actually, plans are under way to annex Canada to the United States, and due to its size, make it the 51st, 52nd, and 53rd States. (Sorry, DC and Puerto Rico!) The planned names for the new States are East Alaska, West Vermont, and North Michigan.

I bring this out whenever I want to irritate my Canadian friends. When they are sober enough to get it, that is.

Q: Do you have perfume in Australia ? (France)
                      A: No, WE don't stink.
guess they don't have to worry about stinky sc's down there, either; lucky them!
                      look! it's ghengis khan!

It's the easernmost island in Denmark, where Copenhagen is located.

That is one Zealand but the one New Zealand was named after is a Dutch province .

I read that and thought I'd be clever and say Ta's many a truth in jest, but then I saw you used the ancient French name for gall about French Canada and mine sounds dismal next to it...

I heard Australia and New Zealand forged less connection than they otherwise might because of lack of shared shipping; the shortest way to Australia from England being through the Indian Ocean, and the shortest way to New Zealand being through the Pacific (even before the Panama and Suez canals, I think).
I second that Frederick Douglass quote--unfortunately, so do a lot of SCs.
