  • EEsh, make one little mistake (Casino)

I work in a casino now, a long time needed update to you guys here. Some may remember me, some may now.

Anyways I was dealing Three Card Poker that day (Basically poker, your three cards Vs mine.)... and at that time it was good for me, I was getting rather chatty. that and one of the guys at the table liked the same kind of movies... we were talking about Mel brooks and such...

And anyways, on this game they have a bonus bet called 'Pairs Plus." Basically if you get a pair or better, you getp aid on this.

This one lady had a pair. I had registered she beat my hand, and so i paid that... then took the pairs plus, while talking.

HOLY OVERREACTION BATMAN. She was all yelling at me (she's a little old asian lady - dunno why, but its' always the little old asians who are all over you. I always tell the security guards to be careful around old ladies. they're dangerous) and saying I talk too much and stuff.

It was my FIRST major mistake on the table in that forty five minutes. Woah...

Well, lady, if you think you can do a better job, than go over to human resources & fill out an application.

Stupid bitch, I used to hate customers like that. You accidently make a little goof & the SC acts like it's the end of the world.

Man...when I play blackjack or three card poker, if something happens like the dealer accidentally takes my chips away when I pushed or something...I always politely let them know. And you know the drill, they have to spread the cards out for the floor and everything to show that they did do something wrong...but I would NEVER yell at them for that...simple mistakes like that can happen.

I take it that you weren't supposed to take the pairs plus?

                Yay, Horsetuna is back!

On that note, I'm with you on the old ladies thing. They are such sleepers. You never see them coming.

Yeah. I actually joke every day to one of the security guards, D to 'beware the little old ladies!" and I did an evil cackle..

slightly OT, today I was wearing six barrettes (I wanted to, dunno why) and they're these strings with shiny plastic beads on them and pebbles... I nickname them my 'space bugs'.

Well, some of the other girls (older women, mothers) noted those and made comments, someone said they looked like spiders.

So I said "No, they're my space bugs, and they're EaTiNg My BrAiNs" (last three words in a really weird voice).

I'd never heard them laugh so hard before.

Edited to add: I also introduced myself to a new guy at work as 'Anne, the Resident Nutcase."

When it comes to money, people don't have a high tolerance for error, even if it was just a minor oversight.

In a casino, people take their gambling pretty darn seriously, and to them, "little Asian ladies" or not, there is no such thing as a minor oversight.

Since, as I said, I don't really understand what happened, I'm not sure what to say, but I know if I had money coming to me, and the dealer took the winning cards, I'd be a little ticked too.

                      .
WEll, this is how Three Card Poker works.

You have three squares to play:

                      Bet

                      Ante

                      Pairs

To play POKER with me, you put money on the ante... the pairs is a 'side bet', you can optionally choose to not play it, play it, or JUST play it.

Now, she had money on all three... so while I was talking, I paid her BET (Which you MUST play if you're playing the ante and you dont fold), I paid her ANTE... then I took her Pairs.

If that makes sense. I should have paid all three.

Back last fall/winter, when I was actually opening the store every Saturday and Sunday, I had a customer that would come in every Saturday morning.

He drove the Turtle Express, basically a coach bus for people wanting to go to the Turtle Lake Casino, up further north in WI than where I live.

He told me stories of having to deal with old people on the ride home, how they'd curse at him for letting them spend their money, letting them waste their Social Security check for the month, letting them bet their house, etc etc etc etc.......maybe some of it he exaggerated, but with the elderly, nothing surprises me.

I got cheated by a dealer and pit boss while playing Three Card Poker before. I was playing both the pairs plus and the regular bet. I had a 5, 6, 7 straight and the dealer had a A, 1, 2 stright. I got paid the 7 - 1 bet for the Pairs Plus but the dealer took the money for the Ante and Bet which should have Paid out 3 - 1. His reasoning was that his straight was an Ace high straight which somehow was bigger than mine and of course the Pit Boss agreed. I knew then that it was the wrong call but was still somewhat of a novice. It tick me off even more now that I know a heck of a lot more about Poker hands. They screwed me out of almost $100.00.

You are right. Up here, it would have been counted as 'one', since straights cannot turn corners like that (IE, Queen King Ace Two Three).

The bet system is different up here though... you get paid one to one on bet and for a straight, one to one on ante plus one to one bonus (So 2 to 1 on ante), and five to one on Pairs.

I' sorry that happened to you though.
