Can anyone tell me why the consistancy to which one cooks his steak is such a hot button on this board? Everyone has these crazy convictions about steak. As cook, I have to deal with them, and I'm very obliging, very, just please know what you're ordering, especially on the matter of rare versus bleu.

And did this SC ever come back for another BLOODY burger? You heard me? BLOODY! I said BLOODY dammit!

I remember when Publix would do these cookouts for charity as well. Hamburger or hot dog, chips and a drink for $1. You can't get a meal like that anywhere, yet you occasionally would have those bitching that $1 was too much. This was for charity, the $1 for each meal sold went for a good cause, and people who had it better than those with muscular dystrophy thought a $1 donation was a rip off. Get over yourself.

Wow, Publix is a bit more generous than the chain I work for. For our Children's Miracle Network cookout, we actually made one of our combos cost MORE than you would pay just getting the burger, chips, and soda separately. And people still overpaid just to give more to the children.

You would have to be living in Florida being many of the retirees frequent certain Publix stores. Those are the ones who always think that $1 is way too much for anything, including food, and always have to top it off with things like, "Well, let those people die anyway since it will reduce the population explosion."

Someone said that exact thing to me once. I replied, "Listen, if there's anyone we don't need it's your ass."

I couldn't tell you. I don't eat steak at all.

Although, I cannot even remotely handle meat that hasn't been cooked to at least medium. It's the texture that does it. I can't handle any fat, either, for the same reason. Fatty meat makes me lose it.

I like my steaks medium-rare and my burgers medium.

My sister likes her hot dogs carbonized. There are days were I just want to hand her a bun with a couple of charcoal briquets inside.
Figers are vicious I tell ya. They crawl up your leg and steal your belly button lint.

                    I'm a case study.

As much as I love my steak to moo when I poke it, I like my hot dogs to have a nice, crunchy outer coating.

"Bloody you say? Certainly!" Then slap a raw burger on her plate.

I would make a comment about old people being too mouthy, but I've discovered that jerks don't become nice as they age, they just turn into old jerks.

Or how about, "Only if you promise to drop dead from food poisoning!"

I am similar. I like my steaks medium, maybe even medium-well if it's not a very good cut. Unfortunately it's nigh unto impossible to get steak the way you want at a restaurant, every cook has his own little ideas about how steak is meant to be served, and "medium" garners everything from charred lumps to meat that's still pink on the outside.

I just let me father cook them. He also does some tasty chicken-fried pork with garlic butter.

My family has a broad range. From my paternal grandfather, who liked everything medium rare (and occasionally rare), to my maternal grandmother, who liked everything well-blackened (and cooked crunchy hot dogs, which I always thought was a bit odd), I've eaten it all.

I generally prefer Medium Well, but I don't get religious over it. I'll eat it nearly any way it's prepared. That said, beef is far down my list for preferred meats... I prefer seafood, poultry, and ham well above beef. Burgers are much higher than steaks, too.
