OK seriously, who the hell decides that they're going to go to Staples on the 4th of July? Don't they have anything better to do?
I could not believe how many people came in today. Between them and the Load I was putting away, and an ongoing ink overstock project, I was flat out for my entire shift.
And then these people weren't buying anything! I think we had more returns than sales for much of the day. Seriously. You're returning a 12 sheet shredder ont he 4th of July? WHY?!
Oh, and everyone who was actually prepared to buy something didn;t because I wouldn't give them a deal. At least half a dozen seperate parties asked me "What's the 4th of July discount?" Not "Is there a discount?" or "Are there any specials today?: They assumed there WAS a discount and wanted to know what it was. I lost two digicam sales because they were outraged that they couldn't get a special deal.
Then there was the moron who was all set to buy a $250 camera. Then he asked me where the $15 memory cards in the flyer were. I showed him, except the card he wanted was $25, not $15. It was still steeply discounted (normaly $45). The flyer quite clearly listed the price of this card as $25. He walked out. So he could spend $265, but not $275?
And then the crownign glory was the frigtard who tried to get me to give him a $300 color laser printer for $80. I'll explain.
He had a photocopy of the current pricing info for that model at Office Depot. It was the same base price, with a $50 instant savings, and a $150 mail in rebate. Final cost $99.99. Not a bad deal. Except that our price match policy stipulates that we can NEVER match a competitor MIR. This is not some hidden secret thing. It's on the full policy which is posted for all to see. We can only match the price you would pay at the register over there. So I could match the $50 instant savings, but not the rebate. Had I done this he'd have gotten 110% of the difference, thus lowering his price to $79.99.
A scammer. For certain.
SC: I do not understand. You have the policy [of price matching] but you're not honoring it.
Me: Sir, the policy specifically states that I can not match a rebate. I can only match their point of sale price.
SC: It says right here that it's $99.99!
Me: After a $150 REBATE! I can't match that.
SC: Well, can you give me the same mail in rebate?
Me: That's their rebate sir, not ours. I have no ability to make up a new rebate.
So he and his two cohorts left in a huff. I am astonished that I did not have to get the manager on duty involved. The MOD was equally astonished after I related the incident to her.
