  • and how am i a racist?

the other day i was helping out a customer who just walked up while another customers car had just finished.

*note this guy had a reason to be angry as his car had taken an unusually long time to be finished, and the end result was that his car was pretty damaged from the work that had been done, also note that the mechanic that did the work got fired for this reason (along with a few others)

im helping an elderly customer choose out some tires for his car, and the angry customer notices that his car is about finished (i dont have the paper work so there fore not truly done, he comes up and stands a few feet back from my counter)

me: ill be with you in just a moment sir.
sc: excuse me, but i have been waiting here all day you have an obligation to serve me first.
me to ec: sir let me help this gentleman really quickly and ill be right back with you.
ec: thats fine dear i understand.
me to sc: im sorry sir i dont seem to have your paper work here, i need to wait for the mechanic to bring it back so i can finish checking you out.
sc: why should i have to go and get my own paper work you need to go and get it for me.

random customer walks up with a bottle of oil.

rc to sc: well arnt you rude.
sc. you have no idea what the situation here is i have every right to be rude screw you.
rc: i still think that you are rude and no matter what the situation is you do not need to be treating her like that.

sc and rc start to verbally fight i go out side to get the paper work to expidite this customer out of there. meanwhile i run in to a manager who was walking through the shop and tell him whats going on by the time i get back the rc is walking away angerly and the sc is standing there angerly.

sc: you need to be my witness,
    mc: for what
sc: that guy wants to meet me out side and kick my ass
me: i didnt here him say that so i cant be your witness to that fact
sc: but thats what he said
me: still i did not hear him say that so i cant be your witness,
sc: well that guy was rude and said i was rude.
me: i think that guy was concerned that you were being hostile to me, for no reason even though i know that you have every right to be angry that your car has taken so long i can understand your frustration, but to that guy you probably seemed a bit too hostile torward me.

    i finish checking him out.

the next day (dun dun dun)

i see sc standing in line, so i ask him

me: how may i help you today,
sc: (points to a co worker) no thanks i want HIM to help me.
me: ok, let me know if there is anything i can do to help if you need it

later on that day, my manager asks me what happened with him last night so i tell him pretty much what i wrote above.

m: well what ever you said that guy is going to the complaints department saying that your a racist.
me: what, what did i say that he thought that i was a racist.
m: i dont know, he wont tell me. all he said was that you said something derogatory against spanish people
me: i dont think that i was racist, and if he wont say what it was that i said that was racist then they wont do anything about it unless he says what it was, besides my boyfriend is spanish, how can i be racist against spanish people.

    wait, how does this

me to sc: im sorry sir i dont seem to have your paper work here, i need to wait for the mechanic to bring it back so i can finish checking you out.
    translate into this

sc: why should i have to go and get my own paper work

Pulling the race card when there isn't actually a racial issue involved usually means one of two things:

1.) Lazy self-entitlement whores, who think that because their great-grandpappy had a rough time of it, that they should get a free ride now,

or 2.) True racism themselves - they've already prejudged you as racist, without evidence to support that opinion. That is, itself, a form of racism (prejudging you because you're not the same skin color as them).

People who view any negativity directed at them as racism usually fall into the #2 category, but sometimes #1, or a bit of both.

and i thought it might be because i wear doc martins.

i dont know, i have not been called down to the main office, i dont think that hes gonna persue it. he got his struts and the damage to his car fixed for free. plus an alignment.

like i said he had alot of reason to complain the work done to his car was very bad, but i dont think that he needed to pull the race card at that time since we were already fixing the problem, and giving him his money back.

the guy was just a jerk,

I hate when people pull the race card on me for doing my job.

i think the race card is getting pretty old my self, (not of course if it is truly a race issue)

another customer was calling my old boss racist, because she was asian (hes black by the way, and married to an asian) i found it funny for some reason. lucky for me i missed out on that whole issue, (due to having to deal with other things) which ended up with the lady being escorted out of the shop by mall security and eventually the police.

i wondered that too, the only thing i can think of is that he thought that i said he needed to get the paper work which i wouldnt have said, because i try to keep customers out of the shop unless they really need to be in there. (especially angry ones they tend to not be as careful and may slip, or trip because they are not paying attention)

i have noticed that anger tends to make you blind and deaf to whats really going on.
