  • They're Everywhere!

It doesn't matter where you go. You're going to run into SC's whether it is in your own store or at the laundromat where you wash your clothes! They're everywhere! I just got back home from the laundry where I wash my clothes (our apartment doesn't have washer/dryer hookups), and I was amazed at how sucky the other patrons were.

I have a love/hate relationship with the laundromat in the first place. I love that I can go there, use as many washers as I need at once, then use as many driers as I need also. My clothes get done so fast that way! Conversely, if I had to do them at home, it would be an all day affair. Put in a load...wait. Put them in the drier...wait. Wash, rinse, repeat. I hate having to lug everything to the car, drive over there, lug everything back out of the car, make sure I have enough quarters, etc.

Today, the sucky customers were out in force. Once I got my clothes all dried, I went to the folding tables and started to put some on it so I could begin folding, when I noticed that someone had spilled liquid fabric softener all over the surface of it! OK...who would do that and then just leave it there?! So, I went into the men's room, got some paper towels dampened and started cleaning up the mess. It was then that I noticed a lady sitting in one of the provided chairs laughing at me! I knew immediately that it was SHE who made the mess and thought it was humorous that I had to clean up her mess before I could use the table.

You may be asking yourself now; "Well why didn't you just move to a different table?"

Answer: I work in retail, and I know what it's like when people leave big messes around my store with the thought; "There are people here who get paid to clean up my mess so I don't have to!" So, I'm not about to leave that mess for the attendant (who has her hands full doing the laundry of those people who are too lazy to do it themselves) to clean up. Even though it wasn't a mess I made.

I always make sure I pick up any drier sheets I may have dropped on the floor before I leave, even though the floor is always littered with them, and have even been known to walk around and pick up a bunch of them while I'm waiting for my clothes to dry. The attendants appreciate my business.

That's just one example of my two hours at the laundromat today.

I firmly believe that every person should have to work in a retail store for a month during their lives so they can see what we have to deal with every day when we go to work. Don't you agree?

Should have found out which basket of clean laundry was hers and then "dropped" the used paper towels in it. She wouldn't be laughing then...
*grin* I actually thought about that, but her clothes were in the drier and I didn't want to wait around for them to get done. After all the time waiting for mine, I was just ready to get home.

I would have chucked the used towels at her, but then again, that's why I don't go to the laundromat.

I am one of those lazy people. Which is why all *I* do is lug my laundry down to my truck, drive the truck to the laundromat, drop the laundry off with my favorite woman on the island not named RW, and a day or two later, come back to lug it all back, clean and folded.

No muss. No fuss. No waiting around for free washers or driers. No dealing with the SC's. No worrying about having enough quarters. No worrying about having enough detergent. No worrying about having enough fabric softener.

All I do is bring the laundry (and enough hangers for the hanging stuff) and pick it up later.

Does it cost more? Yes. Naturally. Am I willing to pay for that convenience? In a monkey fudging heartbeat, my friends. One of the best investments I've made.

My laundrywoman is Stella. AND STELLA FREAKIN' ROCKS!

this is why i am hoping to find an apartment with a washer/dryer ... i'd rather have my own and have to wait than lug it all over creation..

We get asshats like that at the local laundromat, too.

My particular favorite are the people who use the folding tables to eat their dinner! And then they leave a mess on the table where people are going to be dumping freshly laundered clothes. I talk trash to 'em if they leave anything, however. I am not kind.

And here's another one for the file: Last night, somebody stole a single pair of jeans from the laundry room at our apartment. Nothing more, nothing less. One solitary pair of jeans. Nekojin was pissed, since they were his jeans, and he'd only had them a month or so.

                Damn right I was pissed.

I mean, theft is bad enough, but why just the pants? What's so special about Size 42 blue jeans with a tear in the cuff? Why not any of the t-shirts that were in the same dryer?

We have a laundry room in each building in the apartment complex, so it's two washers and two dryers shared between 8 apartments. Now that I'm working late shift, I'm able to do my laundry at off hours, and don't deal with people. The only obnoxious thing I've noticed is people not cleaning out the lint traps in the dryers. I'm always cleaning them out, because I think it's gross--I shed a lot and so do my two cats, and I don't figure anyone else wants to pull out someone else's hair--why can't people do the same for me?

And Nekojin and Andara, that's exactly why I never left my laundry unattended in college. In my building, everyone but me is either much too big or much to small to ever fit in my clothes, and no one without a building key *and* a laundry room key can get to my laundry to steal it, so I figure it's safe for an hour while I'm upstairs reading/watching tv, since our laundry room is always about 95+ degrees F.

Have the proper laundry machines in my house and only have to worry about my roomies hogging them.

Oh yeah, been there, done that (and still doing it!).

Until the apt i'm in now, mine were in private houses, with no laundry - so i had to schlepp my stuff to the laundromat. Which, as Clintmax says, has the advantage of being able to do it all at once. However, people are disgusting! not only that, but the one i went to near my first apt, allowed smoking! I'm not so much anti-smoking as allergic; makes me cough and sneeze and gives me a headache.

People would sit in there, and smoke there little hearts out...eeewww - in addition to being allergic, i do NOT want my nice clean clohtes smelling like an ashtray.

Now I live in a complex with laundry rooms; one for every 2 bldgs, and mine happens to be one of the largest, which means people from all over the complex DRIVE to use ours! and with 900+ apts, it gets busy! But i think my biggest pet peeve is: people who put too much soap in, overflowing the machines, people who DON'T clean out the lint from the dryers, and people who leave their stuff in WAY past when its done, esp on a weekend, when its super busy! I am very fussy about my laundry, and don't want anyone touching it, so i make sure i check waht time it goes in, so i can go down and get it before, or just as its done!

I knew I couldn't be the only one out there that cleans the lint trap when I get my stuff out of the dryer! Now, if we could only teach other people to be that considerate. Oh, hush, let me have pipe dream!

We really don't have any problems in our complex. I've found the secret to making sure to get a washer and dryer....I wait until late Saturday afternoon/early evening. Everybody else is out on the town.

Did have one little bit creepy thing happen once. I went to move my clothes from the washer to the dryer. Walked by the folding table and noticed a couple of things on it. No biggie, someone's always leaving random socks. Well, got done moving stuff and thought something seemed to be missing. Looked at the folding table again and saw that is was my brown leopard print and grey leapord print undies (NO COMMENTS! ) that were laying there. Which means someone opened up the washer, pawed through my stuff, took those out, and then closed and restarted the washer! This was about 3 years ago and nothing ever since.

YES! I hate that too! And it happens all the time. I've walked up to the Publix right next to the laundry I go to and gotten something to eat while my clothes are in the drier, but I always sit down to eat it, and I always throw everything away and clean up any mess I might have left behind.

Once, I spilled a whole bottle of milk on the floor. Guess what...I went to the attendant, asked for a mop, cleaned up the mess and even re-mopped so it wouldn't get all sticky. That's common courtesy in MY book.

The laundrymat near me is nice. a little pricy, but nice none the less.

After paying to have my laundry done for me, and being charged for 3 loads, when i always did the same amount in 2. well i decided to take my dad up on his offer to let me wash my clothes at his place.

Actually, i must confess i did that once..funny thing was, i didn't realize it until the NEXT WEEK when i went to do laundry again! Didn't even miss them, as I had gotten out some of my summer stuff from storage, and washed it, so i had an extra load. Guess I just forgot i had washed them too! Also at that time, i had a lot going on, and my brain wasn't functioning as it should...

So i go down to do laundry, and there is the smell of wet, mildewy clothes. I see pile on the bench in the corner of the laundry room, and think, "what idiot left their clothes in the washer, wet?" - so i go about doing my laundry, and as i'm waiting for it to finish so i can put it in the dryer, i look at it, and think, hey, they have the same sheets i do, and then, and the same pj's - OMG - those ARE mine! i guess someone took them out, and they'd been sitting in a wet pile for almost a week! - so i just threw them back in, and washed them again....DUH! never did that again...i had to laugh at myself for being dumb.
