Ok, I have explained before about the free dvd offer with the newspapers at work. I'll explain again.
Buy a newspaper, show me the token from the paper and I give you a free shitty dvd, in a cardboard case. Joy! You MUST buy the paper and give me the token, because if I even give out one free, without the paper and token, there WILL be one person that comes in with token and paper and gets turned away cause we were one short. Then they will raise hell with me, and I do not want that. Ok...here we go..............
Old bastard comes in yesterday and says that he wants to buy the paper, but we have run out and he doesn't want to miss out on his glorious free dvd. I tell him that he is welcome to buy the paper at the shop about ten steps away and bring it in and I will give him the dvd. He says that he was just about to do that, so can I give him the dvd now, so he doesn't have to come back. I say no, because it wouldn't be fair to everyone else that has the paper and token. He says "I come in here every day, you need to give it to me" I tell him that if he just goes and gets the paper, I will give it to him, but he needs to show me the token. That's the rules. And it is fair. He scoffs at me and puts his hand in my face as to brush me off, grumbles and off he goes.
About 10 minutes later, I am serving a nice old lady and the bastard comes back in.
He comes up to me with the paper and I smile and give him the dvd. He then starts an argument with me. He says that I "do not deserve his custom". I say that I am sorry but I do not control nor do I own the shop, so if he has a complaint, then it is no good telling me, tell the manager. He says that I am a "horrible human being and discusting" because I made him go "ALL THE WAY" to the other shop AND BACK to get the paper. I tell him that I am sorry, but I am just doing my job. He starts saying that he is a regular customer and ANY other member of staff would have just given it to him, and that he knows that "I know who he is" (
) and I was just being nasty to him and treating him badly. He says that I "could have asked any other member of staff who he was, but I was just being difficult". I say "sir, I am sorry, but I do not recognize you. There are hundreds of people that come into the shop everyday and I can't possibly remember every one of them".
The old lady that I am serving says "of course you can't expect her to remember you and everyone else that shops here". He then tells me to "not smirk at him" and that I "can't look at or speak to him that way". Again......
He starts to go on and on again and I say "Sir, it is a FREE DVD". He looks emabrrassed, starts to say something and then leaves.
So, it upset me, but at least I had the last word and maybe made him realize how fucking stupid he was being. I mean...if that is how he reacts to something as petty as that then I would hate to see him if, say, his steak wasn't cooked right while out to eat.
What a joker! Ugh!
