...does not mean I can jump into the future and get you something that isn't out yet (can I add that to the list of powers I wish I had?).
One from last week at the game store (besides the old coot who wouldn't leave, resulting in me being chewed out by the owner for taking too long to close...I'm not counting the drawer in full view of a non-regular and I'm definitely not leaving the register until the count is done, ergo I can't do the DB backup until the reg is closed down).
I get a call about some gaming book, I think it was a White Wolf Scion tome. Yes, a street date had been announced, but one of the first things I learned was to not trust publisher street dates on gaming materials and to use our main game distributor as a guideline. If they have it, it's out. If not, it's not and they probably don't know the real street date either.

NG: White Wolf.
Me: What game?
NG: Scion.
Me: Do you have a specific title?
NG: [title that I can't recall off-paw, not being up on the newer games]
I go to our distributor website, surprise none in stock anywhere and no street date listed save for Not Yet Available.
Me: No, I'm afraid we don't have that one and I don't have any information on a release date, if--

Not five minutes later, the phone rings again.
NG: Whitewolfscion[title] (all in one breath. Amazingly, I somehow knew it was him and hadn't closed out the distributor page yet)
Me: We don't have that one and I have no info on the release date, you would need to contact Wh--

Not released yet means not released yet.
Anyone care to hazard a guess as to how many MA game stores he called that night and did the same thing?
