Why does she CARE? Were you bothering her? Did you assault her? Did you hurt her feelings? Did you insult her? Did you give her a nasty look? NO NO NO NO NO!!!!
WHY in the holy hell does she care?
She probably expected him to be ready to jump up from his chair, whip off his MP3 player, and introduce himself and personally escort her around the store.Knowledge is power. Power corrupts. Study hard. Be evil.

At least your automated e-mail complaint was about your store. Our latest one was a collection of complaints from various customers.
Some highlights:
1. When I went shopping at Your Store located at "Oak" and "3rd" (we are at "Hwy 1" and "Main") I encountered the rudest, most unhelpful, blah, blah, blah. I am NEVER shopping there again.
2. If I wanted great customer service I would go to Your Competitor who is across the street. Your staff was so ignorant, etc., etc. (Problem is Our Store that is across the street from Our Competitor is across town. We are next door to a school, a bank, and a restaurant. )
Unfortunately, these still count against our store because our store was the one identified in the e-mail.My formula for living is quite simple. I get up in the morning and I go to bed at night. In between, I occupy myself as best I can.---Cary Grant

Oh, I *love* those. Got one once complaining about something that happened "in your food court." This was in a free-standing location nowhere near a mall, and the reason she even had the 800 number in the first place was that I'd given it to her when she called us by mistake.
Another, this time definitely a complaint about our store and me in particular (I'd dared to refuse to process his credit card while the cashless system was down) said he had gone to the Burger King across the street. Which must have been interesting, since there isn't one. I wonder how the folks at the furniture store treated him when he asked for a Whopper
Anyway, I've worn my iPod at work many times and not had a complaint. Well, not about that On overnight shifts, since no customers are in the building, the grill team sometimes brings in a CD player. This should cause no one any trouble, of course, except that their choice of music drives me crazy, and they'd like mine no better. So, on the (fortunately now rare) times I've worked that shift, I stick an earbud in one ear, turned low, and the Drive-Thru headset on the other, and everyone's happy, including the customers, who either don't notice or are reasonable enough not to care as long as it doesn't affect service. Now the trouble about trying to make yourself stupider than you really are is that you very often succeed.

Weirdest complaint? Well, this one was a doozy...and I haven't gotten many complaints at all, in any of the various jobs I have had.
I used to do closeup magic every weekend at a restaurant here in town for four years. In that time, I only ever got two complaints. One I addressed here previously, which was probably more a misunderstanding than anything, but the other one was truly bizarre.
It was a Sunday lunch, and I approached one table with two women and their kids and did my usual spiel. ("Hello there! My name is Jester, and I am the in-house magician. Just wondering if you fine folks might enjoy some magic while you are waiting for your meal.") They declined my services, I politely wished them a good day, and moved on. The very next table, two young ladies across the aisle from the initial table, DID want to see some magic, and we had a good old time.
Well, he had a good time until the first table complained to my assistant manager. This, from what my manager told me, is how the conversation went:
AM: "Ladies, I understand you wanted to talk to me?"
SC: "Yes. We would like to complain about the magician."
AM: "Really? What seems to be the problem."
SC: "Well, my sister and I are trying to talk here, and that table over there was laughing way too loud for us to enjoy our conversation."
AM: "Excuse me?"
SC: "That table with the young ladies...they were laughing really loud, and it made it difficult for us to talk."
AM: "Ladies, Jester has been doing magic here for quite some time. We are very happy with the work he does, and the customers absolutely adore him. But also, we are [Fun Chain Restaurant], and we are NOT known for being a quiet place!"
Yes. I did my job so well, that they were upset because other people were laughing too loud. Needless to say, when the GM heard about this, all she did was laugh.
And no, the AM did not cave and give these entitled wenches ANYTHING.

One of the arcades I worked at had a time when three of the four employees there liked to play pinball. Strangely enough, our pinballs were amazingly clean, worked perfectly (usually... but if there was a problem, it got taken care of FAST), and, well, saw a lot of play from the employees.
Now, most modern pinballs (1985ish and on) are designed so that the game gives free games based on how well people have done. Lot of good players, it gets harder. Bunch of four year olds, and it gets downright simple.
We had this old coot who would come in weekly, and complain-- weekly-- that the employees had been playing the pinballs. And-- here's the kicker-- that the games were clean.
Most pinball players adore clean pins. They play fast, and the faster the game plays, the funner it is. Not this guy. "Wah, wah, wah, I lose my ball to fast." Every frickin week. And he's trying to convince us that, first of all, we shouldn't set the game up the way everyone else likes it (including hte resident experts), and that we should be banned from playing. The guys who do the upkeep on the games shouldn't be allowed to play them. Off the clock. With our own money.
The judgement handed down from on high was that, since we put more money into the token machines than he did, well, not a chance, dude. Especially since the store manager was one of the ones doing the playing.
