Yesterday someone needed to get off work early, so me being the nice person I am agreed to come in a couple hours early. Of course, karma does not look out for me, and even though I had given up the majority of my afternoon, I had a SC eight minutes into my shift. What did I do to deserve thise?
Me - Yours Truly
SC - Well, you know
Me - How are you today
SC - (Before I even begin scanning her order.) I'm paying with debit, I want $20 back. (Please note, she has already specified she wants $20 back.)
Me - Okay, well when you pay, just hit yes when it asks you if you want cash back. (At our stores the customer runs their cards through themselves.)
I scan the order.
Me - Your total is $11.
SC - Is that with the $20.
Okay, seriously? How dumb is this lady? There is no way her total would be $11 if that included the $20 back.
Me - No, you have to put it in yourself that you want $20 back.
SC - Okay.
I hit the button on my screen that she's paying with a credit or debit card, the only button I have to hit. I do not have anything on my screen to add in cash back. The receipt prints, and it says I owe her zero dollars back. I hand her the reciept, already knowing that there's probably going to be an arguement, but hoping she decided she just didn't want money back.
Me - Have a good day.
SC - You didn't give me my money.
Me - You don't get cash back, it says on your reciept/
SC - Yes I did.
Me - No you didn't, it says right on your reciept, (showing her.) You were only charged the $11, you didn't get cash back.
SC - Well I want $20.
Me - I'm sorry I can't just give you $20. You must not of hit the right button for cash back.
SC - Well I want $20.
Me - Sorry, I can't do anything you'll have to take it up to customer service.
SC storms off muttering something about how she's going to shop at the other grocery store in town now since I robbed her of $20.
I know she did go up and complain to customer service about me, but since they know she should of entered the cash back herself, I didn't get in trouble. Plus I had a bagger, so I had a "witness" how heard me tell her she had to put it in herslef.
