I'm not sure if it's the weather or what, but the last couple of weeks seem to have brought all the nuts out.
First let me start by saying that the shoe store I work at just got I new manager, and I have went back to working there full time. But I have had to put in extra hours at my 2nd job while they hired a new person. Basically I worked about 50 hours last week, and three 12hr. days in a row. The night before I was about to start these 3 days, the bus I was on rear ended a car. I ended up with a small bruise on my rib cage. So I was not in a very good mood for the rest of the week. Anyway onto the weeks of hell, here is the worst of the worst:
The catalog
Our company sent out catalog to some of our customers. This is not a problem, it is a good thing really. The problem is they have not sent us half the shoes that are in the catalogs. We probably lost about $1500.00 in sales because of this.
No taxes
Basically, customer didn't want to pay the tax. Instead offered to give us cash without taxes, not have us ring it through our computer. He didn't like it when we said no. When it was explained that if we failed to ring it through, it gets listed as missing/stolen, and we could get fired because of it, he exclaims "I don't care, my wife wants the shoes, I don't want to pay tax". Then he leaves, only to return 15 minutes later, and buys them, tax included.
Bad Parent, good sister
Had a mother and her 3 children come into the store this week. She began looking at purses. Her youngest one, picks up a purse and begins playing with it. Older sister notices, takes it away, and tells him they are not toys. Well he just starts screaming, so what does the mother do, she gives him back the purse he was playing with. Her daughter gives her crap for this, as I approach, the daughter takes the purse away again, and takes her brother out of the store. Well her mother continues to shop.
Other Styles
SC: Go get me the other styles of shoes that you don't have on display.
Me: I'm sorry ma'am, we have all of our styles on display.
SC: No, you have to have other styles back there. I've always been able to find a style I like, and I don't anything you have out here.
Ok, you got me, I have tons of other shoes back there not on display. We hide them for the very special customers who don't like the shoes on display.
I've been here way to long
Had a customer call to ask a question about a coupon and whether she could use it on a pair of shoes she bought the day before she got the coupon. I went and got the manager, and suggested that we actually give her the discount because "I RECOGNIZE HER VOICE, and she is a very, very, good customer". (she's actually on of my favorite ladies.)
You know you've been at a place to long, when you can recognize a customers voice over the phone. I could describe her, tell you her shoe size and her name as well.
Measure my Feet
I had a customer come in and ask if we could measure her feet because "other" shoe store didn't have a "foot measure thing", and they said we had one. She also inteneded to buy shoes from the other stire We do have one, but I have no clue where it is, have not seen it in about a month. Also, I am not about to measure someones foot so they can go buy shoes somewhere else.
Do you Sell...
I have been asked if we sold just about everything this week. Just to let you know you can preety much see what we sell as you walk in our store, basically shoes, handbags, and shoe cleaning products.
Lets see, i've been asked for umbrellas, sunglasses, rings and necklaces. Someone asked if we had flashlights (cause a shoe store is the obvious place for that.)
Well, I'm done for now. I'd include the customers I had today, but that really requires its own thread. Which I will post a little later.
