LoL I get to make citizen arrests as a cashier. Similar to this thread http://www.customerssuck.com/board/s...ead.php?t=9195 I heard recently from my CSM that it is illegal to grab a drink, snack, grab something out of the boxes, write on the greeting cards and anything like that. One woman was caught by security the other day for eating a bag of potato chips before paying for them, the Security escorted the lady to the office in which the police got involved and took her away lol sweet I'm a citizen mmm heh heh CEEETIZEN. So I get to bust anyone that comes to my till munching away and saying that they are thirsty and shit! Well the sentence here for people who didn't know about this is 6 months but a wisecrack remark makes it a year. For my descretion I will tell them about this law and if they get sucky about it... I call my friend Mr. Sierra (Security) heh heh like that women with the respirator who was saying that I thought she was a crook well furthermore, you are definately one !!

I will henceforth, look forward to determining who to bust. If you rip off a UPC of a product you're eating and don't say sorry... I make a citizens arrest, the hunt is on!!

I was working at a family dollar when this snot nosed teenaged kid grabbed a tea and just drank out of it. Furthermore, I saw him chug a bit and then proceed to LEAVE it on the shelf. I was furious. My heart was pounding and I was kind of shaky.

I ran over there, grabbed the drink, tracked down the kid and demanded that he pay. His response?

SNT: (snot nosed teen): I knew you were watching thats why I did it!

WTF was he thinking? Trying to look cool or something?

Me: Oh and after you pay for it, you're not allowed to come in here anymore.

I 86'd his ass. Of course when all this is going on, its crowded and no manager to be seen. So I handled it myself. He came back in later and I made him leave. He apologized but I didn't want to hear it. Why couldn't he see that as stealing??

I posted a similar thread to this issue. Several times I've seen people eating potato chips from the bag while walking around the store, while it is still unpaid. And then later on, that same customer will tell the cashier some bullshit story of, "Oh, I was making sure they were fresh, but these are so stale I can't buy them." Half of the bag had been eaten by this point, yet it took that many chips for the customer to judge them as stale. Much of the time, the cashier makes the customer pay, or at least does after the manager gets involved.

My other favorite are the ones who taste test grapes in the produce department, again stating they were testing them. Yet, they've by then consumed fifteen grapes and are tided over until dinner time.

But, that's a new one to me. People writing on greeting cards and sealing them in the envelope before buying them? That's way too extreme.

Really? While I do not agree with shoplifting, are these people such a threat that they need to get time like this? My brother's ex-girlfriend stole credit card information from her previous job and only served two months for that. She never paid restitution to the victim, and is free to go about her life as before. And she has one of the most foulest mouths you ever heard, too!

I think he meant being banned from the store. One of my friends that used to work at FYE would just ban shoplifters that he caught, mostly because it wasn't worth the time and effort to press charges. So he would take the merchandise back and tell them not to come back into the store. If they conveniently forgot the banning, all he'd do is look at them and say "don't even think about it."

Yeah, you could be right about that. The way I read it was this is the amount of time people are doing in jail for shoplifting, and it sounded like a crime to mouth off about it. A little ludicrous there. But again, why would you want those same people to return to your place of business after they pull a stunt like that?

I'll admit to doing this while in line at the convienence store. I'll crack open the Diet Pepsi I'm carrying and take a drink while waiting in line. I pay for it, but I'm thirsty. Frankly, I'd be royally pissed if you banned me for something like that.

Too bad they don't always catch them. At coles here when I was shopping, I've found empty milk drink (the 1 liter ones) behind the full ones. (And this happens about 9 out of 10 visits)

My best friend will sometimes open the juice she's buying, but it has to do with her blood sugar, and not fainting on the floor. I've seen her do it twice, and she's always paid. Actualy, if I remember right, she asked a manager if it was ok, he said it was and not to worry about asking in the future, if that was the problem.

I had another ex-friend(a real witch, but the only other girl in the area) who lived by the "If it's still in the store, it's not stealing" and "if I don't get caught, it's not stealing" I hated it, and refused to shop with her.

I have done that also. I would be complaining alot about that, if I got banned for taking a drink, that I am going to be paying for

Well this story I heard from the same CSM who told me it was illegal. my mother told me after this post not to believe this woman even though they both go to church together which I thought seemed very confusing even though my mother does this all the time.

                        It's stealing! (ADULT CONTENT)

If you break it, use it, or damage it, YOU PAY FOR IT! If whatever you are doing to our product makes it so that I can not sell it, you must pay. The best incident from my store was "The Lovebirds". Two teenagers were manhandling each other in the back of the store. I then notice She has a tube of flavored Lube. I will say it again: Cherry Flavored Lube. It is a "personal product" all sales finall. The Guy is LICKING IT off Her fingers. (EEEEWW!) I walk up, take it from them, and say they can pay for it at the counter. They had no money. I and the Cop informed them it WAS stealing. The Cop asked them if a $7.99 bottle of Cherry Flavored Lube was worth getting arrested. The Teens awnser:

Thing is, how do they know your going to pay for it? Check my last post in this thread. Empty drink cartons, behind the full ones. Now imagine how much of a loss the store has to put up with over that and you can understand why their caughtious.

Also, remember, that for everything that is eaten and never paid for, or otherwise nicked, damaged, or rendered insalable means that every honest store-goer ends up paying more.

                              What is shoplifting

In order for someone to be charged with shoplifting in most states that have to have walked past the last point of check out without paying for the product. So if you are in the checkout line, open a coke take a drink then hand it to the cashier to scan it and then pay for it you can not be charged with shop lifting. However if you open a coke while walking through the store and then sit the empty container down on a shelf, once you walk out of the store you can be busted for shop lifting because you never paid for the product. Or if you did not hand it to the cashier to pay then it is shoplifting.

In the event where it is a personal product and the person is taken to the front of the store to pay for the personal product then and you refuse then again it would be shoplifting because you refused to pay for the product.
