  • Fine, you wanna play like this? I'm game!

Most people who know me, it takes a lot for me to lose my cool. I hardly ever raise my voice, and I hardly show any discontent with a customer.

Anyway, for some odd reason, this lady really got to me.

I was talking with the cashier when this guy comes up and says he needs to order a deck link bar for his tractor. I tell him that'll he'll have to order it through either our website or through our 800 number.

Then his wife started screaming, "I can't believe we have to order this ourselves."

Then she takes off, screaming the whole way to the clothing department. I get asked a question by another customer so I start to answer him. The lady turns around starts dialing on her phone screaming still.

So, instead of calling the 800 to order her damn part, she's calling a friend or someone to complain about me.

I finished with the other customer and I went on the search to find this "lady" and yell at her. I told Steve (guy I work with) "if that lady is looking for a confrontation, I'm game!! Where the hell is she?!"

Steve had to literally hold me back. I was ready to let this lady have a piece of my mind.

I was so ticked. I still want to yell at her.

I'm speechless. That woman was something else.

On the other hand, I think you finally reached your breaking point. Need a loony bin buddy? I'll join ya.

At my store, our computers are set up so we can order a product and then ring up the purchase at the register.

I once had a customer walk in with a printout from a competitor's website. He wanted to know if we carried the electric toothbrush he wanted. While we didn't have it in the store, I checked on our website, and we had it for $10 less than our competitor. I offered to order it for him, but unfortunately, he had to call his wife first to ask if it was OK (rule #1 in sales: always speak directly to the decision-maker; the gatekeeper won't tell the DM what you want her to hear). Sale lost, but hopefully that guy learned his lesson and will stop shopping at our competitor.

I don't know if your store has that setup, but I can tell you that I have appeased many a potential SC by offering to order an expensive item that is not in stock.

I reckon if I got a retail job now, after being a member of this site, i'd probably be a real smartass to rude customers. You guys would be my inspiration for that, hehe. If anyone tried to fight with me, I might take em up on it too

I've worked retail and I've dealt with so many rude customers. I know the last thing you want to do is really get into it with them. I just usually take it. Sometimes I get the customer that I send the opposite way because they're rude, but I like a challenge.

I know that when a customer is mad, they aren't mad at you personally, just the policy. They just re-direct everything at you.
