  • Foreign currency exchange

Okay each casino has a list of what they will dish out to foreign countries for their money. Now, I keep hearing over and over and OVER again about how canada is above us right now BUT that doesn't mean the casinos aren't trying to rip them off.

My casino gives .97. To me thats the best I have ever seen it.

SC: I want to exchange this for US money.
    (Holds out one hundred dollars)

I lean forward and look at the exchange rate.

    Me: Okay, that'll be $97.

SC: Are you serious!? Our money is worth more than yours right now!

Me: Unforunately I have to go by what it says...

SC: That's a rip off! I can't believe it! Even in (insert different state here) its .99!

    Me: ....

    SC: NEVERMIND!

    She storms off.

Coworker: Would she rather spend a hundred dollars driving there to save two dollars?

I can't help what our casino does. Why didn't she get it there if the rate was better? Or can't people exchange their money in their own place? I always wondered. They can go to a bank, right?

I feel bad for japanese exchanges though. They're like .0008 or something like that to our dollar.

We have a book that shows us what foreign money looks like. I like Euros, they're all colorful and pretty. Like canadian too.

Anyway, this couple brought up the new (I can't remember which one) Euros or england money... We don't have an updated book and my CW had to go into the back and talk to the supervisors about it. They said okay.

    Old couple: OC

OC: The other casinos wouldn't take it!

CW: uh, sorry about that... But we ARE so how would you like it?

OC: Why wouldn't they take it?

CW: I don't know... I can't speak for the other casinos... But we are taking it here...

The OC went on bitching about the other places but didn't really pay attention to the fact that we were taking their money... Go figure.

Not a bad thing at all, actually, they do keep it at this rate for purpose.
      It's stable.
And prices are well adjusted to fit the rate.

Actually, I think 100 yen is comparable to $1 USD. I THINK, anyway...not too sure. That seems to be the standard rate from what I've investigated.

Currency exchange is a service that you are likely charging a fee for - therefore the difference in the rate in the financial pages and the rate you are offering.

My local bank charged a 5% fee for CAN-->US transaction. I can't picture a casino doing better than that.

Well, I use XE.com for my currency conversion needs, which I have some use for since my boss likes to bid on auctions in other countries.

Currently, the Canadian dollar is worth US $1.03. The Euro is worth US $1.42, the British pound is US $2.05, and 100 Japanese yen is US $0.87.

Man, I can remember when I went to Canada, and a Canadian dollar was only worth about $0.60.

You know, if people are so damned concerned about their currency exchange rates, they should go to a bank. Businesses have the right to exchange foreign currency at whatever rate they'd like. There should always be a pain-in-the-ass fee.

Sorry that some of my fellow countrymen are such jerks.

You neither scared nor confused me. Confused is one of my natural states, and it takes a lot to scare me.

Feel free to try again, though.

                          From Seinfeld "The Checks" episode....
Kramer and the Japanese tourists are looking at stuff. Kramer picks up a Stetson and reads the price tag.
KRAMER: (reads) Three hundred dollars. Hey, Mr Oh, how much would these run you in Tokyo?
Kramer holds the hat over, so Mr Oh can get a look.
MR OH: (thinks for a second) Ahh, about, uh, thirty thousand yen.
KRAMER: (shocked) Thirty thousand?! These are practically free.
Kramer places the hat on an unsure Mr Oh's head.
KRAMER: Giddyup. You're a cowboy now.
Kramer hands Stetsons to each of the other Japanese.

I remember a comedian on an episode of Just for Laughs talking about all the American comedians coming to Canada at that point in time, and those guys would be "Wow, I used a $10 to buy two pairs of shoes, and got a $20 in change? I like it here!"

Of course, he also did the joke that those same comedians would constantly be asking "What's that smell?" And he'd reply "Oxygen."

the English £20 have changed recently, and unlike most changes over here, they are drasticly different so it's very probable that they were the notes you couldn't find in your books.
