Those who issue parking tickets are very ruthless, and very efficient... you never know when and where they appear, and they would slide a ticket on your windshield before you know it.

    SC:
    ME:

SC came up to the front desk handed over a parking ticket, and stated that he's got a parking ticket on our property, and demanded the hotel should be paying for it.

SC: I've got this ticket on the my truck.
ME: When was the ticket issued?
    SC: 8:40pm
ME: Where was the ticket issued?
SC: My truck was on your property, and I've got a ticket.
ME: So you are accusing OUR parking attendents took YOUR truck out and got a ticket?
    SC: YES
He handed over the ticket. the good thing about these new tickets is they are printed instead of hand written... knowing those parking people all have bad hand writtings. The printed one are better.... with time issued, where exactly issued, and even the vechicle's ID number on it.
ME: Sir, your ticket was issued at 8:40pm. It is almost 12am. When did you bring the car in? Also, the location of the ticket is 20 mins away.
SC: I came here a few hours ago.
ME: can you be more specific? (knowing people have no sense of time, what they thought of 20mins could be 2 to 3 hours ago)
SC: I demand the hotel to pay for the ticket. your hotel's attendent took the truck out and got me that ticket.
Then his friend told me they came in at the same time when he checked in.
Meanwhile, I was printing the map of where the ticket was issued, i gotta love mapquest, and showed him where the truck was ticketed.
Then I checked the time of his friend at check in.
ME: Sir your friend, checked in at 10:33pm, AND according to both of you. you DROPPED your truck to our attendent around the same time.
ME: so let me get this straight, You were accusing our attendent to go back in time at 8:40pm by driving your truck 20 mins away. got a ticket, and drove back here at 10:30pm? is that correct?
SC: NO what i am saying is... I dont know how that ticket got on the truck.
ME: How should I know? your claim is denied, and your accusation to our parking attendents are without merit. have a nice evening. Oh. by the way... know the city's parking service also sided with the ticket officers. dont even bother to protest. waste of time. pay that $75 and move on.

I used to work in parking enforcement (not city, private) and i'd get people all the time who would say that as private land owners people had no right to ticket on their property (umm, if you like we could have you cited for trespassing instead, whichever you prefer). My favorite was at the BK across from the city library, they have huge signs saying that the parking is for BK customers only, that parking and leaving the premises was cause for citation. So I would spend at least 2 hours of my 8 hour shift (not continuous of course) sitting in the restaraunt watching people park and walk across the street to the library... the dumbest part about it, they got a $25 ticket to avoid a (at the time) 50 cent an hour parking charge.

What bugs me is. everytime there is a problem, almost all of those people blamed on someone in the hotel.
They never bothered to think deeper.
its like one of my managers had this explanation:
"I need to make a complaint" = "I want something free from the hotel"

ethdentroll, feel free to tell me it's none of my business, but what hotel do you work for, it sounds like one that I take reservations for.

yes, I do take reservations for you, and it's in Salt Lake (and charleston, and mexico city, and london, and amsterdam, and begillo, and manilla, and sydney, and tokyo, and some others i'm forgetting) with a beautiful view of the worst freeway in the valley to drive on. Which leaves me wondering if your hotel is a MACRO hotel or not (to be honest you sound like NYCHA)

Any rotten tomatoes, nope, let me continue...

Up until the 5th November this year the constbulary used to be responsible for the issuing of tickets for parking violations on the public highway where restrictions apply (ie Double/Single Yellow lines) or where an obstruction is caused. The amount of excuses I heard for breaking the law was immense.

Now the council is responsible for restriction violations and we only look at obstruction, far fewer tickets, but just as much stupidity.

I used to work at a variety store directly across from a hospital.

The policy was simple, if you come in and inform us / ask us to park , we ask you spend a few dollars 3-5 and your safe for an hour or two provided we have the room.

If you just park and leave, you got a ticket.

They gave out alot of tickets.

It was especially annoying listening to peoples sob stories about who they were visting and why they parked illegally.

I would feel bad for some but most were just sucky. I even overturned a few I deemed to be legimate. Mostly the people who asked really nicely, explained and apologized.

The irate people never got a thing.

The parking police where I work are very efficient. They must pull in heaps of money for the city. And it's mostly because people are completely lazy. There are tons of parking lots provided by the city that let you park for free for two to three hours, but people will park on the street, where the time is shorter, because it's closer to where they're going.

We have parking in our building, it's limited and you have to pay $1.50 an hour, but people will pay just so they don't have to walk across the street to the free lot.

i think we may have just kinda started our own little side conversation on this thread, but i'm confused, I though that MACRO charged the hotels... (you know, I could just ask what the hotel code is and that would answer all my questions, but that may be stepping over the line on info i should be asking on a CS thread).

Our office has no reserved parking spaces. There is street parking, and several nearby parking garages, one being less than a block away. When scheduling appointments, we let the parties know of these parking options.

Several months ago, we had a closing that ran considerably longer than anticipated. This was due largely to the realtor discussing matters and signing papers that should have been handled well in advance of the closing. Shortly after the closing was completed and everyone had left the office, we received a call from the realtor's assistant. It seems that while the other parties were leaving the table as needed to feed their parking meters, the realtor had not bothered with such trivalties, and had incurred the ticket, which she now expected us to pay.

I'll admit to being one of the many "Silent Whinority" who gets parking tickets and grumbles about it. My last one - and fortunately there are very few - was a $10 ticket for literally three minutes of parking. Those library enforcement types are vicious!

What's frustrating about my town is not that they issue tickets - everyone does it and ours are very cheap compared to most cities - but rather that they've redesigned the downtown to eliminate a lot of the free/cheap streetside parking. What's left is less overall parking spots and more cost.

And so what was your office's response?
