Again, not so much sucky, as just PAINFULLY stupid.
As I've mentioned before, I work for a company that makes cell phones and radio equipment, among other things. I'm on the radio side, handling things like police radios and 911 dispatch equipment. I also work second shift, so I handle mostly emergency stuff.
In addition, at night, we get rollover calls from all the other divisions, including cellular. This leads to many stupid questions, and much frustration on my part, as you not having your cell phone for one night IS NOT a radio emergency.
So, tonight, call comes in around 10PM. I can tell from the ANI on my phone, this is probably a rollover call, and prepare myself accordingly.
Me:
SC: Painfully stupid dude who makes my brain sad
Me: Hi, thank you for calling *mycompany* this is myswtghst, how can I help you?
SC: Um...yeah...um...I bought this, um, pay as you go phone?
Me: Ok, well we...
SC: (interrupting) And um, I need, like...help?
Me: Ok, well, sir, this is after hours emergency support for radio equipment. I cannot assist with cell phones. You'll have to call back during normal business hours and they'll be able to help you.
SC: Um, ok, well..um, like...do you know who else could help me?
Me: You might want to try contacting your service provider, depending on the issue. Our cellular division only handles problems with the phone itself, not with billing or things of that sort.
SC: Um...well...what's a service provider?
Me: That would be the company that provides service to your phone, who ever you pay your bills to, like AT&T, Cingular, Nextel, Sprint, Boost Mobile, etc...
SC: So, do you, like, know who my service provider is?
Me: No, you would need to look at a bill to determine that.
SC: Ok...um...thanks. *hangs up*
Yay! He's done, and I did the best I could trying to explain this to him after he nearly broke my brain. But that isn't the end...it's never the end.
About an hour, hour and a half later, he strikes again!
Call comes in, again with the rollover ANI, so I prep. And it's him again.
Me: Hi, thank you for calling *mycompany* this is myswtghst, how can I help you?
SC: Um, hi, yeah, do you know who *mycompany*'s service provider is?
Me: thinking, g-d-it, I thought I got rid of you! Well, sir, each customer has their own service provider, it would be whoever you pay for your cellular service.
*to keep it brief, we basically repeated the same conversation as above, nearly word for word*
SC: Ok, um, do you know, if, like, Alltel would be able to help me?
Me: finally! Yes sir, they would be your service provider.
SC: And, um, do you, like, have their number?
Me: No, I'd suggest you look on a bill, or online for the number.
SC: Ok, um, thanks!
Me: You're welcome, have a good even...
SC: Oh! Wait! I had another question. What do you mean by "radio emergency?" Could you, like, unlock my, um, SIM card?
Me: Sir, I handle police radios and 911 equipment, so it means that type of emergency. As I said, I cannot do anything with cellular phones. Have a good evening.
SC: Ok, um...thanks.
And that was the end. Is it just me, or was this WAY more painful that it needed to be?
