  • It's not my fault that you can't get a rental vehicle!

I just got off the phone with a guest who was giving me the gears over them not being able to book a rental car of any type, as if it's personally my fault that it is almost impossible to find an available rental car, van, whatever on the entire island.

And the kicker was that he then expected me to provide my own vehicle for his use. It was all I could do to not laugh as I told him that I don't own a vehicle, and that I take taxis or buses pretty much anywhere in town that is not within easy walking distance. Not to mention that even if I was at all inclined to let anybody borrow a vehicle I owned, it sure wouldn't be some entitled stranger who had their panties in a bunch.

Besides, hotels are not in the business of providing rental vehicles to their guests anyways.

It is Come Home Year for the province so rental vehicles are at a premium right now, but even if it weren't for that, the car rental places have had to sell off most of their vehicles over the past couple of years due to not wanting to continue to pay insurance on vehicles that have sit idle over the past two tourist seasons, especially when they weren't bringing in enough money to keep paying for all that insurance. It is what it is though, so I have a feeling I'll have more guests giving me grief over yet another thing outside of my control. *sigh*

Last week I reserved a rental SUV - 6 weeks in advance for a entire month. That is the way to do it, not waiting to the last minute.

PS. Should mention the two other rental agencies I called first did not have a car in my time frame, so I kept calling different companies well ahead of when I needed the car.

The guest wanted you to let him have your personal car to drive? Talk about deluded. I have to admit I'm glad you don't have a car, at least for this circumstance, because it brings all arguments along those lines to a complete halt.

The idea that an employee has to give up their car for his benefit is arguably the most entitled thing I've read on this forum.

Your failure to plan......Oh, we all know the rest.
I'm trying to see things from your point of view, but I can't get my head that far up my keister!

Saying "no" brings all arguments to a halt as well. There is no argument to be made that could possibly succeed.
