So, this is my first post in a little bit for a SC, because while we all have the idiotic customers, I have come to realize that, for the most part, where I work is SC-free. Most customers are patient, kind, and realize that things happen. But true to SC nature, it's when nothing has gone wrong, that a SC chooses to strike.
I was watching self-checkouts and noticed that it must be "Leave your carts at the Self-Check day". Slightly amiss that I missed the memo, I looked to make sure that no one needed help and walked the full twenty feet to hand off the carts to the door-greeter. I commented on the theme day, and she too said it would have been nice if a poster was put up. The entire thing took no more than one minute, if that. I walked back over to my little podium, and noted that customer on one of the self checks was chatting with friends, and that he was not finished with his transaction. His light wasn't flashing for me to come over, and my moniter told me all was well in the world. I went to help another customer on the SC's with an age approval, and as I returned to my podium 30 seconds later, this happened:
SC- Nothing will scan! I don't have all day to play around with this!
ME- *walks over* I'm sorry sir let's see whats going on. *notices that because he was chatting so long a screen has popped up asking him if he wants to continue his transaction* Well sir, you need to pay attention to this screen here. It doesn't know if you want to continue. *presses yes for him, which leads him to a verification screen that I need to clear.
*Computer voice*- Would you like to call for help?
SC- I DID CALL FOR HELP.
ME- *knowing full well he did not, infact, call for help. Because if he did, the little red light on my moniter would not go away until he was helped, no matter how long I was away* Well sir, I'm sorry I was help-
SC- YOU WERE OVER THERE MESSING AROUND *nods at doorway*
ME- Sir I was returning carts, and then I was right back. You saw me come back.
SC- I SAW YOU DISAPPEAR AGAIN, DON'T THINK LYING WILL HELP YOU KEEP YOU'RE JOB.
ME- Forgive me sir, If the other customers needed help and I was alerted to it. I am doing my job, and you being a hateful old man won't change any of it.
Yes, I did say that. Did I mention that my friend went to the hospital earlier that day? Figures I'd get a SC. >>
EDIT:
Hehe, his reaction wasn't much, he was rendered speachless. Which was probably the best reaction I could have gotten. He glared at me and stormed off, towards customer service. I haven't been talked too yet, but we'll see. I think I have far too many good compliments for them to take him seriously, hehe.
