    People like their terminology.

Half the people who are called atheists actually aren't.

Some of the labels I've had put on me:

Atheist -Doesn't work for me. I don't have a beef with god, or the belief in god, I just have an issue with some forms and followers of religion.
    Agnostic - what?
Non-practicing Catholic- I must suck at it by now, because I haven't practiced in a long time.
    Heathen - woo hoo.

....And there was one term someone used in a bar one night, which I can't remember, but had possibilities.
Just because a customer expects you to put some effort into your job, that does not make them an SC.

Ooh, I like "heathen"... might file that for use besides "heretic". I'm quite liking that term, ever since a street preacher called me one during Christmas shopping; all cuz he asked me if I believed in God and I said no. XD

I was raised Southern Baptist and I didn't like it very well. For several years, I stayed away from church because of some things that have happened in my life. I was so angry at God. Last Christmas, my husband decided to attend midnight mass at a nearby Catholic church. I was hesitant but I decided to come along.

Midnight mass was so beautiful. I felt God telling me "Welcome Home." After Christmas, we decided to attend the church and we attended classes to become Catholics. This past Easter, we were confirmed and we took part in our first Eucharist (communion). I was already baptised, so I didn't need to do that again. Overall, hubby and I are much happier and our marriage is better. We don't fight nearly as much as we did. I hope someday that God and the Blessed Virgin will answer our prayer of having another baby.

Oh and about the cursing lady, she really needs to remember where she is at! I curse too, I did 4 years in the Air Force, so it is common. I'm trying to not to curse as much! When I am on God's property, I watch my mouth!

At my Church we have never had a problem like that. When the sanctuary area is full of people for a regular service it is a totally different than that if you are setting up for a service/cleaning up/decorating etc, when someone may have a radio on, etc. The only time I have hard a swear/swore was if someone/I managed to burn them/my selves in the kitchen preparing for one of the suppers/breakfasts/lunches we serve thought the year.

haha, yet more proof that relegion leads to humanities downfall. I don't want to get into a debate, but I'd just like to say, relegion may have originally had good intentions but they're long gone now. That's why I don't like the idea of relegion, I still believe in something more mind you, but relegion...it's a man made thing, created for the purpose of controlling others, originnall to keep the peace, but currently just to suck the point of life out of everyone. I'd go into all my support for this and refrences to other stuff like the crusades, but I won't, sorry about the mini rant.
            that was a good story

I'm pretty sure the original topic was a woman who went psycho and started swearing because she couldn't get a seat in church on Christmas Eve.

I don't think anyone asked for a listing of the various religious beliefs of our members, nor their opinions on the Catholic church.
(We've read that enough in just about any other thread that mentions religion, Christian, or church.)

Let's try to stay on topic.

A former coworker described himself as a pagan, but said he had to be careful who he told because “those heathens have given us pagans a bad name.”

For myself, I have the following catechism:

                    Culturally, I am Southern Baptist.
                    Liturgically, I am high Episcopal.
Spiritually, I prefer not to be labeled.

I can't believe that woman went so batty over not getting a seat at mass. To curse and carry-on like that in front of families with their children, in what most consider to be a sacred environment, is truly thoughtless.
I will not shove “it” up my backside. I do not know what “it” is, but in my many years on this earth I have figured out that that particular port hole is best reserved for emergency exit only. -GK

While I'm not a religious person, I would still respect the church and it's member enough to not curse like a drunken sailor while I'm there.

Plus, I would be afraid of a bolt of lightning coming down on my head if I didn't behave myself.
Do not annoy the woman with the flamethrower!

I didn't mean to bash any religion or start a huge debate. I simply mentioned my atheism to point out that even as a person that does not follow the faith so to speak, the woman's actions were shockingly inappropriate to me. This would be the same as someone making a scene at a funeral or a wedding over the seating. Some things in this world should be treated with a decorum of respect even if you don't believe in it or even understand it. Its basic human dignity. It could have been a sporting event, I won't allow some idiot swearing around someone else's kids. It also amazes me the trouble people will go to just to go to church just twice a year. Interesting fact about the US population...over 87% of households have a bible, yet fewer than a quarter can list two books of the gospel. Or at least according to the last census taken by the government. Happy New Year people!!!

Some Lady "No shit dumbass. This is fucking insane. I got here 20 minutes early and its bullshit I can't get a seat."
Yup! Absolute bullshit! Everyone else here was late, but we gave them a time machine ride so that they could pack the house before you got here. Because we're mean like that.
