  • Why I'd never work where my mom works (quickie)

My mom works at a grocery/clothing store similar to Walmart, but not (name brands, a little pricier, west coast only). On Christmas Eve morning, they had a nut running through the store screaming... with a taser. One customer did get tased, and but she was up and moving so hopefully she's ok. A member of security got tased, but kept on wrestling the guy until another couple of security officers could tackle him down.

According to my mom, who heard it from a coworker, his family said he hadn't slept in a few days and was off his meds.

Oh! Ok! So lets go shopping!

at least he didn't take a sawed off shotgun into a mall because he felt like an outcast at his deadend job rolling up floor mats to be packaged...

I concur. It's far better to get tased and live to tell about it than to be shot and die from your wounds.

Of course, tasers can kill, too.

The only benefit is that, to kill with a taser, you have to be right next to the person (well, normally, anyway), while shotguns allow quite a bit of distance.

My mom is a district court judge, so she gets to deal face-to-face with all the nutjobs doing crap like that that you hear about.

I heard tasers hurt like hell, hope that woman's okay.

what's truly scary is that happened at one of my favorite malls about a year ago, see trolley square... worst act of random violence in modern utah history.

Bizarro (& hopefully amusing) story. I heard this from someone whose mother told her about it. Feel free to get out the salt shaker, but it's probably true.

It's about 30 years ago & friend's mother works at high end department store. Gentleman in a trenchcoat, on a mildly cool day, asks her where X is located. She responds and he very nicely thanks her & leaves.

A few minutes later, she hears the code for 'security, report to X' and she sees the man, coming from X, except now he has his trenchcoat over his arm. He is wearing shoes. Nothing else. Mother got to watch, as security pursued this guy over most of the store (multi-story, etc). They would reach X & the staff at X would say 'he went that way.' They would follow that way. Staff at Y would say, 'he went over there.' They would go to Z, rinse, lather, repeat. And through it all, the man just calmly walked, unhurriedly.
I'm sorry, the person to whom you were speaking has been replaced by a recording. Please leave your message at the sound of the beep.
