To explain the title, I should say that the store I worked in was in a large inside mall and moved to a strip mall several years later. The former store had no public bathroom, while the latter had a single, unisex toilet. The transition, one would think, would go from sucky to wonderful. Not so.
In the first store, the bathroom was so tiny that the employees could barely move in it, let alone the fact that getting to it meant roaming back through all of the overstock. There was also the fact that all of the most expensive overstock was kept in the bathroom itself. Obviously, there was no way that the public was allowed back there.
It was in a very large, nicely set up mall that had more public bathrooms and means to get to them than was probably necessary. Did people ever want to walk the short distance to get to them? Of course not. I had more people than I can say arguing with me, yelling, going into fits because we didn't have a public bathroom, claiming that it was against the law, that I was a horrible, terrible person (because I came up with the policy, right?), that I would make them soil themselves because I stuck to my guns.
I was so happy about moving out to the new store because, among other things, that wasn't going to be a problem any more. I didn't even mind having to clean it up, because people had been so incredibly rotten about the old place's policy.
While there were quite a few nasty messes and more than a few calls to the local plumber because of customer stupidity in how to use the facilities(how do these people make it past grade school without knowing these basics? What do they do at home??), the worst thing was the fact that they stole the supplies. The cheapo lotion and soap, the industrial paper towels, even the toilet scrubber. Ew! The worst of the worst? They stole the toilet paper right off the roll, All of the time, leaving none for the next person and that often wreaked havoc. Honestly people, if you're that bad off, the manager will Give you a roll!
This isn't a comment meant to spark a debate or offend people, it's just something I found very sad and ironic at the same time; this happened at a religious book/gift/everything else store. I realize people shouldn't steal from any store, but that just seems so obnoxiously wrong, almost like stealing in a church.
Has anyone else had any other happy bathroom freeloaders?
