  • Does worrying about this make me an SC?

OK, I ordered a traditional diamond engagement ring to give my fiance for valentines day/her birthday for two reasons.

1:They're a week apart, I wanted to get something big to cover both.
2:She's decided she wants to go public about our engagement in march, so I figure one month of hiding a ring can't be too hard.

So I ordered it a couple days ago, and then I realized that without thinking I had used my debit card instead of finding a method of payment without a maximum daily spending limit.

I check my E-mail and sure enough, there it is, a message asking me to call their CS desk to help solve such issues. I called today after school, and talked to a CSR named Jeanie.

I decided to change it to a wire transfer with my bank, and the CSR told me to expect the paperwork to be E-mailed to me to print, fill out, and take into my bank within a half an hour, max.

This was at 4:30-ish eastern standard time. It's now been four hours. I'm getting a little bit worried. Does that make me an SC?

No, that makes you someone worried that the rather expensive Birthday/Valentines present you're trying to get your fiance isn't going to happen in time. They said half an hour, and it's been four hours? I'd've called them back a couple of hours ago.

No. but I certainly would check back with them, make sure they have the email addy correct, etc. Half an hour seems like an overly optimistic tur around time, but if that's what they said....

Congrats on the engagement, many happy years.

Actually she said optimistically it would only be 15 minutes while it ran through the system. At this point I'm thinking I'll call them back at the same time tomorrow assuming I don't get the E-mail by the time I go to bed tonight.

I mean, the thing supposedly delivers within a week, and as long as I get it by the 21st, I'll be OK, so I don't mind waiting a day to let it run it's course...

And anyway, I don't really NEED to have it until mid-march, so again, a day isn't so bad...

Just wanted to make sure I wasn't stepping on any toes if I call back tomorrow...

There's nothing wrong with making sure your purchase goes through properly.
besides it sounds like you've been very polite to them.

          congrats & Happy birthday

Congrats. Being old (41), getting engaged at 17 is younger than I'd recommend. But, I won't tell you not to. Just remember: being married is work sometimes. Be willing to put in the effort and the rewards are amazing.

Here are two examples of a follow up call, see if you scan pick the SC:

Call 1: Yesterday I requested paperwork for a wire transfer from my bank. CSR Jeanie said to expect the paperwork in about 45 minutes. It's been 24 hours. I'd just like to make sure that there's nothing wrong or there are no issues.

Call 2: Where the hell is the paperwork you promised? FALSE ADVERTISING! I deserve a free ring! I'm going to boycott you forever and let all of my friends know that YOU SUCK! And, by the way, even through the phone I can tell that you smell and have really thick ankles, lady!

Nah. Not an SC. Sometimes I take an email address over the phone so I can send a customer something. I'll give them a 15 minute ETA and tell them to call me again if they don't get it.

The reason it that sometimes I mishear or mistype the email address.

I'd rather have them call me back in 15 or so minutes and let me know they didn't get it, than have them fuming for hours or days (or six months in one notable case ) thinking I've been ignoring them.

Sometimes there's a server problem and the email just gets held up.

Sometimes they mistype the email address.

                Definitely don't wait.

You have probably already checked this, but I would suggest checking your SPAM folder. Whenever my bank semds me stuff for some reason Yahoo thinks it is spam. Also if I send an email from my work email to my personal email it will go to my SPAM folder.

I called in again today, got the information sent.

It made it this time and I went in to arrange the wire transfer. I have to go in again after school tomorrow because my bank wanted to double check a few things first, and I had an appointment to go to. If all goes well, the money will have changed hands by friday afternoon, and I'll have the ring sometime next week.

                      Um, Call 2?!

Do I win a prize? Cookies? (I get to open the box of Thin Mints my roomie got me????)

I know it's been said before, but I think this site sometimes makes us a little too sensitive to the possibility of being an SC and we go too far in the other direction. Being worried doesn't make you an SC...harrassing/abusing the employees because you are worried does.

Oh, yeah, and and good luck

Edit: on the subject of emails ending up in the bulk mailbox: I get emails from Barnes & Noble. I imagine they are the result of having put my email in once upon a time when they first started collecting them (just to see what I'd get...it was years ago and until fairly recently I didn't get nuthin'), or possibly when I ordered a book one day. (Possibly because my email was put into 2 different "sources" in the store?) At any rate, sometimes I get more than one in a day, and some of them go to my inbox, and some of them go to my bulk mail.

                        *snicker*

Here's another example (guess which one is from real-life)
                        1) Hi, I just placed an order & I'm a little confused. My coupon says that I should get this pizza for $20, which adding a $1 or $2 delivery charge & couple dollars for tax should come out to be about $25. But I was told that the total was $29+. Am I not adding something up correctly or did I miss a charge or is it possible that the coupon did not ring up correctly?

                        2) Hey, I just called in an order & that idiot told me my bill is $30. What the &*^% is wrong with you people! CAN'T YOU DO MATH! THIS IS FALSE ADVERTISING! THIS COUPON which you can't see SAYS MY PIZZA IS $20!
I'm sorry, the person to whom you were speaking has been replaced by a recording. Please leave your message at the sound of the beep.

                          Which one is the SC?

                          Uuuuummmm...this guy?

Of course, my very literal mind would wonder how a coupon could "say" anything about the price of his pizza.

And then I'd have to supress the urge to ask the SC to hold the coupon closer to the phone so I could hear what it was saying.
