  • SC or no? I almost exploded.

So, it started at 10am, central time. It is now 4:09pm.

My Mom and Dad had some kindof credit thing with GT (for short/protection). They called herethe past few days while I was at work, and luck has it I alone to take calls at home today.

    First call:
    Me: Hello?
    Lady1: Hi, is Mom there?
Me: No, but I can leave a message if you like?
L1: Yes, this is Lady1 from GT, can you have her call me about a personal business matter?
Me: Sure thing, she'll get this message tonight.
    *click*

    Second call:
    Me: Hello? (same number)
    Lady2: Hi, is Mom there?
    Me: Is this GT?
L2: Yes, I need to talk to her about a personal business matter.
Me: I already talked to someone earlier about it, and took a message.
L2: Is there any way I can reach her?
Me: She won't be back until later, I have a message from you guys written down already.
    L2: *repeat*
    Me: -_- Okay bye.

After that, they decided to demand to speak with her. I went through Lady1-5, repeat a few, and Guy1-3.

    Sixth - Ninth call:

    Me: Hello...
    (whichever): Hi, is Mom there?
Me: Please stop calling here, I have the message and number, please leave me alone. *click*

    Tenth call:

    Me: Hello o\/O''
    Guy4: Hi, is Mom there?
Me: No, she isn't.. I have taken messages from you guys already.
Guy4: I just have a name and number to give you, then.
    Me: Sure -_-

So I take the name n number (same one).

    Eleventh call:

I just picked it up, set it on my desk, and continued running a twink through RFK.

    Fourteenth call:
(After I finally hung it up)

NewLady: Well, if I can't talk directly to her, I'm just going to keep calling.
Me: Oh my god, I have taken messages from you guys already, you all have calledmore than TEN times today!
NL: What relation are you to Mom?
Me:..... (seething anger) None of your business.
NL: How do you know her? You are being very obscure with me.
Me: I am really tired of you people calling here. She has already talked to one of you, has told you she'd be back later, I've taken messages, what do you want?!?!!!
NL: We are going to keep calling unless we can speak with her.
Me: This is such harassment, please STOP calling here or I will block the number.

I have NO idea what sh said next. I am so pissed off right now. Even if I let the phone off the hook, it eventually shuts itself off, and they call again.

This IS harassment, right? I don't think I'm the SC, and I was sitting right with my Mom when she told them when she would be back (tomorrow) to talk to them.

I may be wrong (in a legal sense), but I would say this is harassment. The company trying to reach your mom has been informed that she's not available, when she WILL be available and that their messages will be delivered in a timely fashion. To continue calling at that point, when they've been TOLD the person they're trying to reach is not available constitutes harassment in my opinion. But I'm not a lawyer. There are (unless I'm badly mistaken) laws governing when and how even collection agencies can attempt to call people, you might see what you can find about those and next time the company calls record the call if you have the means (and inform the person on the other end the call is being recorded to CYA) and start quoting chapter and verse at them about what laws they're breaking, and request that they stop. If that doesn't work, the next logical step is to take the evidence you've gathered and speak with a lawyer or government official if you can figure out who you'd need to talk to.

Of course, you could always just leave your phone off the hook, too.

I would say it definitely constitutes harassment. Record the time of each call. Even collectors can only call a certain amount of times per day, I believe (Misanthropical, please correct me if I'm wrong).

I don't have the link, but the laws are posted online.

You could unplug the phone itself, leave the answering machine hooked up and the sound down.

That is has to be harassment.

Also I think there is a rule in the customer sense that states in situations like these, you are not an SC.

Mom n Dad just got back and got it sorted out.

The people calling said they had no record that we'd been called. It ended at the 16th call they made, and we found out that...

...they wanted Mom n Dad to take out ANOTHER loan. WTF?

That's what happens when you don't somehow record that you called.

answer the phone "your call may be recorded for training - and legal - purposes"
then see how many times they call....

definantly harassment, espcially when it's not for something important, but just to try and get money from you.

I've been through a similar situation with my old roommate. When he was out of work the got behind on the bills. He goes back to work while I'm out on vacation and the one company kept calling, and calling, and calling. I started taking down their names & timed called, then I repeated the ever lengthening list before letting them leave a message. A couple hung up on me mid list.

I HATE people who can't get the point.

Not to thread jack or anything, but for the last few months I've been getting calls from these home-based business people. I don't know HOW theygot my name and number since we're unlisted and the phone is under my mom's name, but they have called every day for the ast three months.
Every time they call I ask them to make a note on the account that I'm not interested in what they're offering and to please stop calling me.
                            Have they? Of course not.
I've hung up on them, asked for supervisors that never came to the phone, DEMANDED they remove me from their call list and yet I still get calls.
I can't shake these people so now when they call and ask for me I ask them to hold, set the phone next to my computer (which is usually playing music) and just wait for them to hang up.

Yeah, its harassment. We actually warn people of the reverse sometimes at work. When they call us over and over just to be assholes.

I just picked it up, set it on my desk, and continued running a twink through RFK.
If it's for the BGs, I hate you. =p

They're bad enough as is with all the tiny overcompensating penises running around the first two brackets. -.-
