Free refills for life

Ok. I was in Florida last week checking on the renovations to my house, anyway I stopped a McDonalds to get an iced coffee and while I was sitting there drinking it ( I was inside at a table) this van pulls up and out jumps Ms I get it free and her Hubby.

Ms I get it free is carrying a Large Mc Donalds cup (apparently she bought a drink earlier in the day, week, month etc.) and walks into the restaurant and goes over to the drink fountain and refills her cup. Her hubby goes into the mens room while she is doing this. I'm at my table with my mother and we're both doing cause we can't believe she has the nerve to do this.

Fast forward about 10 minutes, mom and I are still there talking and this lady goes off on the manager because she was charged for the drink. The manager told her she does this all the time and no one has said anything about it before but refills are free only for that initial visit. If you leave and come back you have to pay again. Well of Ms Free refill doesn't like that and wants to talk to her manager.

Basically her manager caved in and requested the manager to go in back and talk to him. Well she was so pissed she quit on the spot. She told her manager that she's tired of him being a wimp and not backing them up and that lady stole her refill and she's out of there. I saw her on my way out and applauded her for standing up for her rights. She told me her manager was a wuss and never backed them and she had a new job anyway so screw them. YAY!!!

But can you belive that lady? Thinking because she brings her cup back in she can get free refills and then when she gets called on it gets all pissy. Some people.

sadly, i can believe this; because of the mantra we all know and hate, monsters like this exist and make our workdays sheer hell.

Too bad you didn't keep the store number and time of day. I would post a comment at McD website about it.

I did that with a manager who couldn't add (the computer had the wrong price). I even did the addition for him step by step and he still didn't get it. Never saw that manager again.

I saw it happen on almost a regular basis at my McDs.

There was a woman who would come through the drive through in the morning and order a coffee.
Later on in the afternoon, she would come back, hand her empty cup through the drive through window, and expect a free refill.

She pulled it with me, once, and I threw the empty cup away (thinking maybe she just wanted to hand me her garbage).
She proceeded to bitch me out until I called for a manger.

Needless to say, he let her get away with it once, and she continued with it for as long as possible.

When I worked at Wal-mart it had a McDonalds in side and the night crew would buy a drink each and keep refilling it for free until the cup fell apart, then they would just by a new one. The thing was the fountains were behind the counter so the McDonalds staff were the ones filling the cups. Now being that the two groups worked so close they probobly did not care but still.

:OT: This was also the same McDonalds where I got my WM staff discount (10%) two years after quiting, the cashier was a manger that had worked there when i did and just agve it to me the one day. I felt kinda bad for it but she seemed to not care that I had quit.

Of course I believe it. It happens every day at fast food restaurants. When I was in high school, I had a friend who actually bragged to me that he does that all the time, bringing in his used Burger King cup and getting a free drink without them saying anything. I'm not sure if he ever was caught being this was over 20 years ago. Still, this is the reason why the prices on fast food is going up, so we can pay for what these low lifes are stealing.

What I don't like is that the employees are trying to enforce the policies but the managers give in. This makes us look stupid. But if the employees let the customers get their way, then we are yelled at for doing the same thing the manager does. You never win!

I've noticed that fast food prices have really gone up alot recently. I know gas prices have increased, but I think this type of thing causes prices to increase more than anything else.

Wow. Who really thinks you can get eternal refills at Mickey D's? I think I would have done the same thing & quit on the spot. When management starts kissing customer's butts then it makes those workers who are doing what they're trained to do look like idiots.

Just an aside, but another big part is that worldwide prices on feed for livestock has gone up due to some ingrediants being used for ethanol production. So there's kind of a three-way prices hit going on right now. Gas-theft-ethanol

I don't agree with what that lady did at all. Using an old cup to try to get free refills.

But it does remind me of a funny story. My boyfriend told me awhile ago that he went through Taco Bell's drive thru, I think he bought some food I don't remember, and he had a taco bell cup from the previous day, and he asked the lady in the drive thru if he could get a refill. I think he intended it as a joke, but she's like "yeah, sure, what kind of drink do you want?"

Maybe not. Maybe people are trying to get free refills on their gas, instead of it being the big oil CEO's that are claiming we are getting low on oil.

My company just removed all the soda machines from the stores (large regional grocery chain) They never gave us an official reason, but we all knew it was from theft. The POS said we sold say 20 cups of soda, but used enough syrup for 50+.

I reuse the big plastic cups I get from gas stations. Sometimes I even take them in with me to KFC because they will fill it for me. I'll pay full price at the fast-food places, but I like using a plastic cup more than a paper cup. And at the gas stations I get it cheaper (.69 cents rather than 1.10$ for a refill) because I'm not buying their cup all over again.

I've walked into a "What-a-burger" in Dallas/Fort Worth and filled the cup I had from earlier in the day, then when I tried to pay for it I was told I didn't have to (They'd watched me for the whole week I was there walk into their store twice a day to eat, so I guess they recognized me, that and I drew pictures for the cashiers).
