I dont have a problem with that at all. I order all my burgers: Cheeseburger plain.
Then at home I add what I want extra, like mustard because I dont want the burger smothered with it.
But I dont make up any reason, allergies, dont like. I just say what I want.

The Guy/Gal at window sees so many people come thru the drive-thru, they dont care what you want or dont, they just need to get it right and get you on the way.

I did have one encounter once that I will never forget.
Wendy's, I order a Single with Cheese Plain. I usually check my food before I leave and yupe this time I didnt.
Got home, opened it up and saw.. every single condiment possible, and onions, pickles, tomatos and also Bacon. So it wasnt a vege burger.
Pretty much I got the exact opposite because of all the things that were in it, it was missing the meat and cheese.

[QUOTE=draftermatt;310610]Should have told her that clams are not shellfish, they are a mollusk and not anyway related to shellfish, therefore she's not allergic to them if she's allergic to shellfish. [quote]

I know this. My old roomie knows this. The neighbor knows this... Dunce *should* know this as we were all in culinary school....

I mean, I can eat clams and oysters just fine. I can't go near a crab or any crustacean. But Dunce swears they're all the same and thus...refuse to touch a bottle of clam juice because she's "allergic" but will still eat foods processed with traces of crustacean because... its.. processed.

It just proves how stupid Dunce really is.

Yeah that about does it right there. You know it's different, and yet you swear it's the same.

My old supervisor has a similar allergy. Raw tomato is lethal to him, but he can (and did) have ketchup on his fries. He actually explained it to me how it works, but I can't remember. Best I can recall is that the processing breaks up the chemical that he is allergic to and renders it harmless.

Of course, it doesn't explain the attitude.

I love tomatoes and love to eat them raw. Like apples.

If you don't want your tomatoes, can I have them?

For me -I have foods that I am allergic to - they won't put me in a hospital or kill me . . . .
To be tactful - I have issues digesting fruits and vegtables.
I learned along time ago I have to use the term allergic to have it done right.
Sadly there are staff in food preperation establishments that do not take pride in their work. They just flat out don't care. (This is not majority but it is just enough to ruin it for everyone else)
They will take food back to the kitchen and someone (waitperson, manager, kitchen staff) will just remove the offending item . . . and sometimes - not appoved by CS dot com- add to the entree in some DNA filled way.
So the key phrase has had to become claiming an allergy.
Luckily more people are taking pride in their work and it is a wonderful thing.

-shiver- I don't like octopus. Fried calamari is different, though, maybe because its tiny and not so chewy.
Where do you eat fried calamari where its not so chewy? I know of one restaurant that can make thiers not so chewy - Carrabba's Italian Grill - any other place I've EVER eaten fried calamari I felt like I was chewing rubber bands!

Calamari: If it feels like rubber bands . . .it is over cooked . . .oil too hot or too long.
It should have some "tooth" to it . . .but not make you think your jaw will fall off from overworking first.
Some places do great - some have better nights than others.
Small Mom and Pop Italian places - when they make it fresh can have some of the best ever.

I'm one of those 'no fresh fruits or vegetables' people. People seem surprised about it. I can only drink grape, apple or strawberry (for some reason strawberry-banana gives me mouth sores too).

IT sucks cause I love orange juice and other things though. I dont know if its an allergy or not but I've had no problems (mostly because fruits and veggies dont come on burgers save tomato)

I get that from Mango (god it burns!) ... also bell peppers.

I always acquiesce when a guest tells me they've got food preferences. Hell, I'd have to, my boyfriend is THE pickiest eater on the face of the planet. He won't eat eggs (although I've made him French Toast, and he's enjoyed it), he won't eat anything that has ANY kind of sauce on it, and he won't eat cheese. ANY kind of cheese. It doesn't matter if the cheese is buried deep within the food, he won't eat it. Although I have fed him cheese sticks (breadsticks with cheese sprinkled on before baking) and he liked those.... *sigh*

See, my problem is that waitstaff could possibly become jaded after a while if people are lying about food allergies like that. Luckily, my worst one is capsaicin, and I can smell that from a mile away. I'd have to be stupid to put it in my mouth (even though once I smell it, everything starts to swell.)

Sad for me, I can't trust most Asian-style restaurants to not make something spicy. I just have to go with all the sweet dishes instead.

Fresh calamari that hasn't been overcooked will be slightly on the chewy side, but not so much that you feel like you're eating rubberbands. But if it's not fresh (even cooked perfectly), it'll be nearly impossible to chew down.

I'm lucky. The closest I get to a food allergy is that I'm moderately lactose intolerant. It took me a while to figure out that it was my morning cereal making me feel so bad, but once I stopped eating cereal, I felt a whole lot better.
