I wanted to keep it in the store since the bank is going to kick it back anyway. This way I will have a learning tool, but no, we had to deposit it.
Ouch, I hope your sig is not on that deposit slip. Knowly passing a fake is a serious offense. You can get thrown in jail for that. Next time tell them no, you're not willing to go to jail for them.
I've lost my mind ages ago. If you find it, please hide it.

Damn, where were you the other day??? I didn't even think of that.
Funny thing is, the bank never called yesterday to tell me we deposited a fake. Guess they didn't check it.
I could play dumb if they did call. They would never know I knew it was counterfeit. Thanks for the advice. I doubt it will happen again, I have the staff on such high alert they are calling over a manager for them to check andy $50s and $100s they get.

You might want to pass this little bit of info off to your LP.

The "suggestion" or policy that the bill should have been deposited anyway can get the store in serious trouble. The secret service (treasury dept) does not take it lightly when you pass fake notes. Here's the legal choice to make taken straight from the Treasury Dept's website:

Do not put yourself in danger.

Do not return the bill to the passer.

Delay the passer with some excuse, if possible.

Observe the passer's description - and their companions' descriptions - and write down their vehicle license plate numbers if you can.

Contact your local police department OR call your local U.S. Secret Service Office. EMAIL US at this address, or contact the U.S. Secret Service through your local Field Office found in the U.S. Secret Service Locator.

Write your initials and date in the white border area of the suspected counterfeit note.

DO NOT handle the counterfeit note. Place it inside a protective cover, a plastic bag, or envelope to protect it until you place it in the hands of an IDENTIFIED Secret Service Agent.

Surrender the note or coin ONLY to a properly identified police officer or a Secret Service Special Agent, or mail it to your nearest U.S. Secret Service field office.

Please Note: There is no financial remuneration for the return of the counterfeit bill, but you will have pride in doing the "right thing" to help combat counterfeiting.

Also, let's just say what if here. IF the secret service found out your LP had stated that, then that LP would be arrested and likely charged with aiding and abetting an felony. Possibly, they would even face felony charges of counterfeitting themselves. If, (again what if) the company had such a policy, then the CEO, or whoever was in charge would face such charges, along with STIFF fines in the hundres of thousands of dollars.
