We are not Walmart!!!

Yesterday I was at UScan yet again. (God I hate it so much!) And ALL freaking day I had people trying to remove their bags before paying, and of course the machine says to put it back and people ignore it and wonder why they can't keep scanning. Um hello it just told you to put the items back in the bag. Maybe if you do that it'll fix the problem.

Then of course I tell people that all items they scan have to stay on the bag scale till they pay. And they STILL try to do it anyway, and I tell them like 5 times that they CANNOT remove it. "Well can't you just override it?" No I'm not suppose to, it's the only way we can keep track of your orders and make sure no one steals anything.

Then of course they pull these out:
"Really, Wal-Mart does it different."

Yeah I know that, I hear that every freaking day now. Yes Wal-Mart is different. But guess what WE'RE NOT WAL-MART now put the items back.

"I like Wal Marts SCO better"


Why is logic non existent in customers. If you like WM so much, then why don't you go there! Any normal person would. See when I like one store more than the other, I tend to shop there and not the others place. Hence why I go to Target and not WM. Because I hate WM, but then I forget, Customers don't even have brains, why would they be logical

Still if one more person tells me WM is better, I'm gonna strangle them to death.

How ironic. The customers liked them, perhaps because it was too easy to slip things through and WM saw their profit margin shrink?

I admit, sometimes having to bag the item gets annoying. I mean, all I want is a bottle of water. Just ONE bottle of water! *shrugs* I just put it in the bag, finish the transaction, and then take it out of the bag.

Yeah some of the ones done here have either removed it or reduced the number of them. I've heard that it really gave them a big shrink margin

of course you can always skip bagging.
Maybe they mena fresh and easy, if a worker isnt there to help you bag, you still more bags

What's sad is that anybody with two active brain cells should have seen that
LONG ago. Greed overrides common sense. Walmart saw an opportunity to
cut its labor expenses (by eliminating cashiers) and didn't think it all the way
through.

When they were first put in, I watched a woman absolutely melt down trying to
use one. It's real easy - 'scan the item, put it in the bag' - yet she could not
wrap her tiny little mind around this concept, and she broke down in a shrill,
petty little tantrum, throwing things and shrieking at just about anyone that
happened to be nearby - customer or staff. Seriously, I've seen 8-year-olds
that acted more maturely.

I'll admit, SCO had me a little confused at first, too - but after about four items it
sank in and I've not had any major problems with it since.

By the way, not all the Walmarts in the Cinci region have had their SCOs removed - used one today at Wally World, in fact. Personally, I still prefer to have
a cashier do it, but they had just ONE 'regular' checkout line open, and it was
six or seven deep. And not another cashier in sight. And yeah, I could have walked out without paying for about half my stuff. There was one lady watcher
for for SCO counters, but she was busy with two other stellar examples of human
intelligence.

One WM by my house doesn't have the SCO anymore.

I remember one day I bought some cupcakes to take to work, and they were the 12 count ones, and they are pretty big. There was no way I could put it in a sack, and for some reason I couldn't rest it on the thing so the machine could tell it was there. So the watcher had to come and do something and realized that my cupcakes were priced for 6count, not 12 count. So she said, "That is the 6 count price!" I thought she wanted me to confess that I changed tickets, but I didn't, I just didn't realize the ticket wasn't right. So after she stands there for a while, I guess trying to decide to make me get a package of cupcakes with the right price, she let me pay.

Most stores I run into arn't like that; If the price is wrong, they give the lowest price. With WM, when the price on the sticker is lower then what the price rang up for, they have to get a manager and ask advise and almost make you pay the higher price. If the item rang up more than what was on the sticker, then they go to the shelf to check the price, which I don't mind, but considering how many items I had that happen to (3 items) the last time I was at WM, I think WM is a racket.

WM executives: Let's tell the DM to leave stickers reflecting a lower price on the shelves, and let the customer, who usually buys more than 50 itmes, not notice they are being charged more at the register.

Thankfully the SCOs in my store are the ones like WM has. Still when It says "If you wish to purchase this item, please place it on the belt" Put it on the fing belt!!!!

I'd just like to say that I REALLY miss Kroger. I personally liked the self-scans and never had a problem with them.

I would just like to say, and I'm sorry for it, but the self check outs at Smith's are retarded. Even when I don't take items away, they tell me to put something back.



And Wal-mart's IS better. It's just 15 miles away, and the gas isn't worth it. Which is why I now only use self check out when I have just enough items to carry or hold in a basket on my arm, so there's no weight issues on the scale. When I use a cart, I wait in line with the rest of the single mothers.

I've got a question about self-scan. I was at Kroger the other day and self-scanning and almost done with my order. I got a phone call and as I was at self-scan, there was no one in line, and I was almost complete with my order, I went ahead and took it and then proceeded with my order.

Some employee came over and started taking my bags off the scale and putting them in my cart. At first I thought she was just moving the "big" items such as the 12-pack of soda I bought so that she could put that little sticker on it or something. Then I saw she was grabbing everything and just piling it on top. I hadn't even finished paying. I had to stop my phone conversation to tell her I hadn't paid yet and ask if her removing my bags was going to mess up the machine. I still have no idea why she thought I needed help or that I wanted her to come over and put stuff in my cart. I was doing perfectly fine on my own.

Now, if I had been in the regular checkout line with 5 people behind me and just took a phone call and started chatting and ignoring everyone around me, I could see that she might get annoyed or something. But I was in the SELF-scan. Obviously I went to that line b/c I don't want help - I want to scan, bag, and put the groceries in my cart myself so that I can pack the groceries the way I want and nothing gets smushed.

Am I wrong to be a little upset that she just came over and started taking my stuff and putting it in the cart? I guess if I hadn't been on the phone I would have just said "oh I'm okay thanks, I don't need help".... but she interrupted me and rushed me along when I hadn't stopped going through my order when I got the phone call and no one was waiting. I just thought it was weird.

I always used to try and beat the voice telling me what to do. If you scan/swipe your card fast enough, it used to cut off that annoying crap. Then they changed it, and now you have to listen to everything it says.

Um, I just set it on the scale. It doesn't seem to care if it's actually in the bag or not (where I shop, at least).

Oh, and apparently I'm a mutant. My power is to use the self-scan properly. I had another employee amazed at my ability to properly self-scan a salad bar salad without calling for aid. She said something like, "Oh my gawd! You know how to ring those!? Half our employeeeees can't do that!"

Without being there, it's hard to tell. She probably either was trying to help out, without realizing that the help wasn't wanted... or she was under pressure from management to follow some "customer friendly" policy... or she was trying to push you out of the store for some odd reason. In the first two cases, irritation is fine, but upset is... probably not the best reaction, but nonetheless an incredibly human response (and probably one I would have had). In the last case, upset is normal.
