Guest: Yea Dave, I am upset that nobody told me the property I am renting is for sale

Me: most of our properties are

Guest: well I did not agree to that

Me: we have no control over it, ma'am

Guest: oh yes you do, I want that property taken off the market during my stay. I want the "for sale" sign out of the front yard and I want all ads showing the property for sale to be removed.

    Me: I cant do that

Guest: well if my demands are not met, you will be hearing from my attorney

Me: have him give us a call anytime, we'll be happy to talk to him

Guest: I will and I am going to get him on you too for your sarcastic attitude

    Me: ok

    Guest: f___ off CLICK

Does she not realize that the company that you work for does not own the property? Only the real owner can do that.

Oh, wait. I was thinking that these people understood logic.

Welcome to my world. I work in the real estate world (well, a very specific part of it) and MANY people do not understand the difference between rental agreements, leaseholds, outright ownership and everything else in between. There is nothing you could have told this lady that would have satisfy her--other than telling her that of course your will quit-claim the property over to her and her mortgage will be merely what her rent is. Oh of course ma'am......

As long as potential buyers aren't coming to look at it while she's staying there, what the hell's the problem?

I can imagine she is worried while she's busy in the bedroom, a real estate agent will walk in with a potential buyer...actually, that reminds me of a Monty Pyton skit...

No lawyer is actually stupid enough to take on this case. Though if the customer attempts to trick the lawyer into suing by being a liar, that threat would backfire in a most spectacular way.

So what was the woman really upset about? Signs in the yard (which some people are funny about, after all) or the mere IDEA that the property was for sale? If it was about signage and the fear that realtors would come tromping through the rental, then something could probably be done. But if she's just horrified that someone would dare to sell something she is renting, oh the humanity.

Somehow I bet there's a clause in teh rental contract that says "This property may be for sale. Suck it up and deal" but in legalese, of course.

I could go with the sign removal theory, but she wanted any ads gone too. Just a nut job.
