There seems to be a spontaneous "poker tournament for cash" aspect to every one of my extended family's events. Weddings, funerals, baptisms, birthdays....we just really like poker.

Everyone grieves differently. It is impossible to judge this woman, especially given the very little information we have about her.

If you have to ask, it's probably better posted at www.fratching.com

I would bet a very large sum of money that she's bringing his ashes.

      That is so sad.

i agree that it's not necessarily selfish
when my brother died the week before i turned four
my mom had my bday party at his grave
and then the week after took me to disney world....

the death of a child screws people up...
especially if they have other children..
that lady might just not know what else to do, you knoe?

Parents who lose their children do all sorts of "unusual" things to hold on to the memory of their child. Going on the trip could be one of them.
I know of one woman who was going on rides at Hershey Park and talking to no one in particular. A friend in security told me that he had already checked her out to see if she was ok. She was riding the rides and "talking" to her dead son (whom she believes is watching from heaven - a common belief) and telling him how the ride felt.

It was a comfort thing and a final goodbye...so devil's advocate here but this might not have been evil or sucky...just a final tribute.

I think I have to agree with you guys who think she just wanted to go through with her last sons' wish for him. I just had no reference point for such a request.

I love my job very much. There are days when you are left breathless by the good that people do and days when the breath gets knocked out of you by the bad things that can happen to good people.

Even after working in retail, even after seeing the worst of some people in this world, I still like to think the best of people. So my hope is that she is either 1) taking his ashes or 2) going as a tribute to him, maybe a last goodbye since it's what he wanted to do.

A little off topic, but I was watching Extreme Makeover: Home Edition the other week and there was this girl on it doing her Make a Wish wish. No, the wish was not to get her house done or anything. Her wish -- a terminally ill child who could wish for anything in the world -- was to help on an Extreme Makeover house.

                How sweet is that?

Buckethead says he would like to be buried in Disneyland.

Buckethead is not supposed to be used as a norm for anything. that guy is seriously wrong in the head... and this is comming from someone who considers himself to be mad...

As in a celebration of "finally they kicked it and I get the inheritance?" if so, that's bad.

If by that you mean "let's celebrate the good times we had with them" then how did I miss you at my grandma's wake?
Sadly the first one.... abusive husband, grandma kicked him out, he made sure she couldn't get divorced (if you know what I mean ) -- and got away with it.

Now if it was the latter, wouldn't of bothered me at all
