Footnote: I work at a wholesale store which you need to pay a yearly membership fee to shop.

SC: I think it's a SHAME ya'll charge me to shop here!

...then why DO you shop here?

SC: I think you could make up the difference in your profits in order not to charge!

...we don't charge more than 19% over base price, most stores charge anywhere from 50%-300%, which means we WOULD have to raise prices for people to shop membership free, and I don't feel like hearing you complain about that if it came to it.

And after this point, I just walked away, because I checked her account, and if she had our higher level membership, she would had gotten a cash check from us for $150.

Enough for a free membership plus extra.

I'm not paid enough to argue with stupid people.

Good question. I don't get this either! Are you the only store in the area?

      What an idiot.

I joined Costco and saved way more than what I paid for membership on my first purchase alone.

They had BUFFY and ANGEL seasons for $17 a pop. I went a little mad.

When I worked at Best Buy, we would often price match on any REAL store (not online stores like amazon or overstock), BUT only if they did not charge a membership fee. You wouldn't believe how many people went apeshit when they found out that we wouldn't match the Costco price. Hey, if you want to only pay 19%, pay the $50 membership, you cheap bastards.

        Olive juice you too.

The local WalMart had the original theatrical releases of Star Wars for $13 each the last time we were there. Hubby liquidated our date fund to buy them. He lubs me.

I will also never understand why people complain about paying membership fees for places they choose to patronize. I'm really missing my parents' Sam's club membership, but we don't eat enough to buy in bulk like that.

Costco's stuff is absurdly cheap, but the only drawback is that you have to basically buy stuff by the pallet. Its incredibly awesome if you're buying for a large number of people, such as a party or BBQ event, but if you're just buying for one or two people its often times cheaper to buy at a more conventional grocery store, since you'll never be able to finish off an entire pallet of whatever before it expires.

you can if you know how to properly store.

I love my Sam's Club card so much I think I'll name my next goldfishie "Sam".

Mmmm, I need to get my fanny over to Sam's so I can get some big pretzels. <3 And fruit. And meat. Salad greens. More eggs. Cheese. Almost out of cereal again (damned cheerios).

Shoot, the first time I went into a Sams, I bought a food storage vac and a case of bags (as well as almost 200 pounds of chicken and beef.) The savings made up for the $30 membership in one trip, and the deep freeze was full for months!

I had a Costco membership back when I didn't have medical insurance. The $10-$20 savings on my bottles of insulin more than made up for the price of the membership. When you're paying $70 a bottle that lasts 2 weeks, you look for every saving option.

heck if you dry meat properly, wrap it tightly in plastic wrap and then in foil and then place it in a freezer bag you can make it last a couple of weeks

That is the height of stupidity. Under you own free will, pay to shop at a store than complain bout the membership. wow.

Ahhh, yes, the wholesale clubs. I work at one.

The biggest problem WE have is people abusing the company's "trial membership" program. Basically, a few times during the year, we'll do "membership drives" to attempt to convert these trial memberships (60 days for no fee, and you can upgrade to a full membership during that time and get essentially 15 months for the cost of the one-year membership) to full memberships.

Only problem is, a lot of these trial members don't take the upsell, and just wait for the next trial membership to get sent in the mail, and just sign up for that. So they get to buy stuff from us without paying the non-member surcharge, but never actually pay for a membership!

The company finally realized it was losing money by doing this, and so the rules changed. Now you can't use a new trial membership if you have one on record already. Yes, your old trial membership expired. No, we won't sign you up for another trial membership. No, your husband can't use the trial membership instead of you, or anyone else in your immediate family either.

I signed up for one of those memberships. I get enough back every year to pay for my membership and a little extra.

Our costco shops are about $300 every month. I don't even want to imagine what it would cost us for all that food at a regular store.
