Ok, I won't tell you where I work, but there is a certain person (at least one on here) who can figure it out. Anyways, my store had what is called a "Sunday dollar deal" where a certain color tag is a dollar for clothes and shoes. There is another color that is half off. Some of the sc's have legit gripes but go about it the wrong way. I realize that some of our signs are misleading and I've explained that to cust/management many times. But if the person just accepts my explanation, it immediately puts the cust from semi-sc to normal.
Then there are the ones who either don't read the signs or tell me the sign is wrong. When it says "clothing and shoes ONLY" that doesn't include purses, toys or anything else.
Now our store has a major 1/2 off sale every holiday, and for labor day we have a 2 day sale (but Monday and Tuesday.) There are no less than 4 signs on the door explaining such, as well as about 100 flyers on the front desks. So many people came up irritated that the sign was not for today. Some demand refunds, but most were polite about it. There were only 2 people who wouldn't stop bitching about it. I just was as diplomatic as possible explaining our policies and the sales.
But in the middle of the day there came this unusual customer. I don't think she'd ever been to our store before. She comes up with a bunch of clothing, figuring the amount in her head of what it would cost. When ringing her up I noticed that a bunch of her stuff was discounted. When she saw the displays of her prices being lower than she'd anticipated, her face lit up. She spent about 1/3 of the amount she'd expected, and was floored. I explained our sale to her, and she understood. I could tell I'd made her happy and I know she will be back. It is those exact type of customers who make our jobs tolerable-those who actually appreciate what the store/employees have done to make their shopping experiences easier.
I've had many memorable cust's (not all good) at this job but she will stick in my mind a long time. SC's could really learn from this woman. Now I have hell to look forward to as a 2 day half off sale is approaching. Now to utter a few curses:

Wish me luck everyone. Hope this didn't bore you.
