  • Do Not touch

Since the season is coming up I'll ask this question. We have a HUGE window that I decorate for holidays. Well a lot of this stuff is my personal stuff. My inlaws used to run a auction house so I have a entire shed full of crap for every holiday, especially christmas.(I sickness,I know)So I do my window display for christmas and its so pretty,I even have people from all the office around come to look at my display. Well my question is why do people think they can come into my store and touch, pickup, turn on the musical stuff and violently shake my decorations?( I don't understand shaking a snowman either)I mean do they go to macys and starts touching their displays.I always have the jackass that argues, well I'll touch it if I want.No No you won't it's my personal stuff and don't touch it. I even had to put up a little sign Ugghh!!!!
I mean do adults really need to touch my fiber optic santa or the cotton balls that I poof out to look like snow.
Just one time I would love to follow these jackass home and start taking apart their christmas tree or shaking their presents.

do people try to buy your items? I would think they would get upset that the display was not for sale

I could not put my personal stuff out and have people touch it its bad enough watching customers man handle our products then not buy them

I can understand the suck here though. How often do you go into a store to find out that there's a bunch of stuff not for sale?

Usually stores display items they sell to decorate with.

Wouldn't you get peeved if you went to a grocery store, went to buy an orange, just to find out that the cashier brought it from home, but left it out because it looked pretty?

yes but there's one problem: We are a candy store we sell nothing but candy and health supplies like tampons and tylenol. You think people would be smarter then that.I could see it if I'm walmart or target. I just decorate to draw attention in the hotel lobby. Dumbasses think whoooo blinking lights must follow blinking lights.

If it's a closed/locked window display, could you just (I know they don't read) put up a sign: DISPLAY ONLY -- NOT FOR SALE! ?

Despite the fact that you're a candy store, a lot of places sell random seasonal items, especially things like decorations, that they usually wouldn't, so I can still see people thinking you're selling them as a promotion. "Get 3lbs of candy for the stockings, and get the stockings at the same time!" That kinda thing. But now that a sign is up, especially if it says something like "Display only, not for sale, please do not touch", then continued behaviour of that sort's sucky.

I would never recommend doing that if you can't lock the display window up so it's non-accessible.

People break things. Can you watch the display 24-7 while you're working and serving customers? Somebody's going to break something (or steal something) one day.

If you're okay with that, more power to ya, but me? I'd never put my personal stuff out where customers actually can touch it.

Why does a candy store sell tampons?

I have to agree with the sentiment of locking the display somehow.

With customers, you unfortunately have to cater to the lowest common denominator. And the lowest common denominator with customers is somewhere around the level of an incontinent, retarded chihuahua.

So if you're not okay with getting some of this stuff back broken and/or missing, it's a good idea to try and ensure it's secured somehow.

Wow. Now that I see it that way, why haven't more candy shops caught on to this? They could make so much money!

Put up a sign and if it continues, get loud about it. Embarress the hell outta them.
