  • Wow....just.wow.

Okay, so I work at the front desk in a gym.
Guy comes up to the counter and tells me that he forgot his swipe card. no big deal, I just need photo ID so that I can look up his account and let him in. So I look up his file and it says that the card was swiped 15 minutes ago.
Me: So, are you saying that you left your card at home?
SC: uuh, ya I forgot to grab it as I left.
Me: Well, it says here that your card was swiped 15 minutes ago. Do you know anything about that? (I love that they don't know we can look that up, Muahaha!)
SC: uuh, no I don't know how that's possible... It's at home.
Me: alright, well obviously you are attempting to share your card with a friend. That is strictly against policy and so I am not letting you in today.
    SC: huh? *walks away*

And now I get to forward this joker's name to the assistant director so that he can decide on what to do with him. I think that this is the end but, oh no...

Twenty minutes later I see SC approach the turnstiles with card in hand.

Me: excuse me sir, could you come here please? *takes card which obviously has someone else's picture on it* Okay, this card does not belong to you. Why were you trying to swipe it?
SC: uh, because you wouldn't let me in.
Me: yes, that is because you shared your card, letting a non-member in. and now you are going to card-share again with a card that is not yours. (seriously, did you honestly think that this was okay?)
And now you just got yourself as well as this guy *points to card* a one month suspension .
SC: oh...so can I get let in now?
ME:... You are not permitted in the facilities for one month. neither is your friend. your membership cards will not work.
SC: sooo... can I buy a day pass?
    ME: ...no.bye.

The saddest part of this story is that he was completely serious.
Hi, I'm new by the way and I will have many more stories to share in the future

wow are you management, or do more people at your place have actual authority to punish people? If so are you hiring? I work front desk at a community center and half the time the only thing I can do to people is glare at them while I wait for the manager who's actually allowed to do things like kick them out.

Actually, all of the Csr's at the front desk have the authority to:
-give one month suspensions when a client card-shares (there are signs EVERYWHERE stating that it is strictly against policy).
-Charge non-members for day passes when they try to sneak in (If not, we call security for trespassing.
        - kick people out for breaking policy.
And many, many more! Is it bad that these are the only reasons that I look forward to coming to work?

I mean come on, this is my job. and when they break the rules, I see it as them not taking my position seriously.
P.s. Most of my duties include selling memberships and day passes (not just busting people)
