  • Not. Buy One. Get One.

So I had this caretaker come in with her ward(?). I find this woman annoying. I'm pretty sure she tries to steal from her disabled people, or something. Normally she yells at them. I wish I could figure what one she works for.

Anyway, It is a little hot today. She asks if she can have some water. We still have to charge, regardless of the heat. Its .39 cents. Too much for her. Can her client buy a soda and her have a free cup. No. Water is free, its the cup we charge.

SC: "Well, can he get a fountain soda, and we share it?
ME: I really don't care what you do with it once you buy it.
    SC: Ok.
Her ward buys his fountain soda after she tells him he can't get the canned soda he wants. They go to the fountain soda area. I hear the the sound. Then I hear more. ALOT more. I go over, and see him drinking from the size he got, and her drinking her own from another.

Me: Hey, you have to pay for that.
SC: You said I could have one if he bought one!
ME: No, I said I didn't care if you shared.
    SC: Oh it just soda!
ME: You still have to pay for it.
SC: But you said I could have it if he buys one!
    ME: NO, I Didnt!
SC: But it be waste if I dump it.
Me: Yeah? It's stealing if you don't pay for it.
    SC: .....
.... I just got confused is all. I thought you said I could have one for free. *Dumps*

Always something with this lady. She once tried to claim that since cans of X brand of soda are Y, she should get Namebrand soda 2 liters for less then Y. (Does that make since?)

Tell her the evil beast NightWatch is going to sic the Swedish Fish on her if she doesn't behave. Or something else non-sensical.

Wait you have your fountain drink cups where anyone can grab them and fill them up? How does what you described not happen more often?

We used to have that problem. During the spring the took out all the soda machines in our stores, due to "lack of sales." Yes our cups were also available to anyone.

Hurg.... caregivers can sometimes be the WORST people! A friend of mine had a caregiver last week who gave her some meds too early by a couple of hours (she has no sense of time at night and doesn't know if it's time for meds yet when she's woken for them-- it takes a while for a brain to boot up after enough seizures) and nearly sent her to the hospital for dialysis to remove the meds from her organs. Fortunately she didn't have a reaction, but for that med, most people would.

Oh, and since you had a (?) by "ward," the correct term would be "client" or "employer," depending upon whether the caregiver works for an agency or for the individual. I generally use "employer" unless told otherwise.

I am wondering that as well, especially after reading the bit about 39 cent water.

To give you an idea how shocking and absurd this is to me, my dad and I went SC on a manager (granted, that manager was a fuggin idiot even aside from that, and probably deserved a good verbal beatdown) at a Snappy Tomato Pizza place, and never returned after they tried to charge fifty cents for a water.

the fountain sodas are pain in the butt

and because the big chains sell them so cheap people think the soda lids and cups are all but free to us people think if they split up the purchase it should cost nothing or next to nothing ,

I have had people "buy" a soda only to get to the till and not have any money they think doing this will give them the drink for free, no I snatch it away and dump it, boohooo what they ganna do not shop us any more ?
