  • SC will always blame someone else

People email requests to the library for us to copy pages from books, magazines, and newspapers. This request was sent and I finally got to it and finished it 2 days ago, even though the dealine was 09/06/08, according to the patron. We do say on our website there are no rush jobs. This is the original request:

I would like to get a copy of the front page for ALL (name of our city) newspapers in circulation on January 7, 1968 and January 15, 1969. Also, any page that might show birth announcements for those dates. Please advise if this is possible. Thank you.

This is the reply we got from the patron Tues. night:
thank you so much for your reply. I am so sorry to bother you with another request, but I am confused. I thought I had requested a copy of front pages for January 15,1969 and January 7, 1970. If not, I apologize. These are the dates that I need. Thanks again for your assistance.

NOw the thing is, we send a reply with the original request, so all this lose had to do was scroll down and see her original request of else go to her sent box and see what she sent. Oh, she probably did check, and thus the: but I am confused. I thought I had requested a copy of front pages for January 15,1969 and January 7, 1970. If not, I apologize.

Just type, loser: OH, I gave you a wrong date, it's 1970 no 1968. Sorry to make you do extra work, also I will pay for the work I accidently made you do because I wasn't sure of the date.

Normally, we make the copies when we find the article, even though our policy
is not to make copies until we receive payment. Luckily, when I realized I wasn't going to make the patron's deadline, I decided not to make any copies. Oh well, I have other things that I have to do, so she isn't getting a reply anytime this week.
Time! Time! Time is what turns kittens into cats.

Don't teach me a lesson; all I learn is that you are an asshole.

    My sympathies, Depechmodefan,

We have a recurring requester of photocopies who drives us mad.

The lady lives on the opposite side of the world and, when she's in the mood, she fires off up to 10 emails a day each requesting a single article. This pattern may go on for a week or more. Ofter her citations are so awful we have a hard time figuring out what she wants.

She also doesn't like to pay. At one point we had to suspend service until we received the 160 USD she owed us. That's a lot of photocopies.
Research is the art of reading what everyone has read and seeing what no one else has seen.

i honestly fail to see the suck here. She apologized for giving you the wrong dates.

also, her saying "i thought i gave you the dates for..." is the same as saying "oh, i gave you the wrong date..."

      don't see a reason you're calling her a loser...

Wow, that is insane. We don't send the copies until we get payment.

I think she was dissimilating. Instead of saying, "oh, I gave you the wrong info." she said, "I'm confussed", which cs mean that "you are confussing me with information that I didn't ask for." If it was "I usually get confussed," or "sorry, I confuse myself a lot" then she places the blame on herself. Also, instead of looking at her own email or the bottom of the email reply we sent her, that would show the original requests, which shows the dates she requested, she just decides to say "I'm confused, I thought I had requested a copy of front pages for January 15,1969 and January 7, 1970. "

I'm just ticked that she couldn't own up in the first place that she gave the wrong date. She said "If not, I apologize." "if" means that she might not be the one who made the mistake.
And I called her a loser because we do a lot of requests and tons of times people who request for copies that takes a lot of copying and effort, and they don't pay. And I call her a loser for giving the wrong date and having us do extra work.

But it's probably particular to me, since I have to put up with a lot of people being weasles when it comes to paying or giving us info. Like this one guy asked for an obit for "William Randolph Payne". We tell him we didn't find it. Then he said, "Oh, I mean it's Randolph William Payne. Can you check again?" Um, I know if we find the name a little off, like "Ida Mae" instead of "Ida May", we will tell the patron, "We found this name, you think it could be it?" Or people changing dates for one person, several diff. dates, and of course none are correct. Ugh.

At least we now get to see the world through your eyes

          Pun intended.
Your neck is 7 and a half feet wide and 4 and a half feet tall. Your shoulders are also around 4 and a half feet wide. Your butt is 4 feet wide and your arms are around 3 feet long-gravekeeper

I think you may be overreacting due to your own experiences. Sounds to me like she was being nice and not outright accusing you of doing it wrong and denying any fault on her part. Heck, she even apologized, though I will grant that it was in such a way as to not directly either accept or lay the blame. I wouldn't call her a loser though unless she didn't in good faith pay for the work done in mistake.
