  • Including the amazing morphing car.

So, I do work at a place that takes calls for emergency roadside assistance.

This week was particularrly intresting. systems failed for hours and the weater was bad in some cities i cover.

here are a couple from last night that just make me giggle.

    Bad coolant

I had a guy call in . He was driving his jeep. His jeep was overheating, as he desceibed the needle wont go any higher on the temp gage and his coolant was boiling. He was concerned because his coolant was not perfectly green. It was a little dingy. he wanted to know if just draining the "bad coolant" from his jeep and replacing it with new good coolant would make everything ok.

I had to explain to him that slightly dingy coolant was not making his jeep overheat. That replacing might help but the safest bet was to get his jeep looked at and not drive it any furher.

not really sucky just amused me.

    you want what?

In a certin area there is a lot of flooding near the great lakes. I cover this area.

I had a gentleman calling in to get his car towed. During our conversation several facts came out.
    1. his car was towed by the police away from the overflowing river to higher ground near the evacuation shelter he was staying in.
    2. he wanted his car towed from this safe place to his house.
    3. his house was waist deep in water.
    4. there is no way to get to where he was exccept by boat as the lowerlying streets were flooded.
    5. said streets were closed with police standing by keeping people from going through because it did not look that deep.

(was told to call us back when water recedes)

    The amazing morphing car

A gentleman called in due to locking his keys in his vehicle. Everything went normal until I asked the year make and model of his car.

    SC-the gentleman
    Me- me?
    Sup-supervisor

Me- And what is the year, make and model of your vehicle?
    SC-98, lincoln, strech limo
Me.- I am sorry sir but limo's are not covered.
SC-it is not a limo it is a town car.
Me.- It may be a town car but you just said it was a limo and therefore is not covered.
SC. But it is a town car.
Me. may I place you on hold so I may check with my supervisor?
    Sc-ok

I then check with my supervisor who confirmed that I was indeed correct and limos are not covered and that since he said it was a limo when i asked then he is not covered.

Me-Than you for holding. I checked with my supervisor and policy states that taxis and limo's are not covered for emercency roadside assistance.
SC.- MY CAR IS NOT A TAXI!
Me- I did not call your car a taxi, I was stating the policy and telling you that a limo is not covered by our services.
SC-I want to sppeak to your supervisor.

And that ladies and gentlemen is the story of the amazing moprhing car. it went from a strech limo to a normal town car.
My sanity has been dripping out of me my whole life, today they turned on the faucet.....

He will though, probably be sucky when his mechanic hands him a bill to repair the engine and cooling system

Please tell me that if "Mr. morphing car" is discovered to have lied about his car (that is, that it actually is a limo) that if if somebody actually was sent out, not only is he refused service, but is also charged a service fee for a falsifying an emergency service call.

In my mind, that's one of the only ways to de-suck an SC. Make holding onto the suckiness cost them more than they can afford. See, if they become sucky because of the service fee, then you can tell them that they are banned from recieving service because of their attitude.

In my view, companies have trained customers how to suck - and something needs to be done to reverse that, before it's too late.

Well, the way I see it, and this is probably colored by my tech support experience, the guy's confused.

            1. His car is a Limo, but he honestly thinks it's "just" a town car.
            2. His car really is a Lincoln Town Car, which granted is a very big car. He thinks it's a limo.
            3. Either way he's just totally confoozed.

By that rationale, it would seem that the make and model of the vehicle are completely irrelevant.

If he is a commercial driver, driving a vehicle used to transport passengers for profit (taxi or limo), then it isn't covered.

He could be driving a Yugo and it wouldn't matter.

A lot of regular Lincoln Town Cars are used as limos. You can pick them out by the darkened rear windows and number tags on the bumpers. We use them sometimes because they will charge a flat rate that is occasionally cheaper than a cab ride in traffic.

Yeah, got to love those people who figure they can pull a fast one by lying to thier motor club about what they're driving.

"Hmm, Well, I only have coverage on my car, but, they don't know I'm not driving that, so I'll just tell them I am...."

And when the tow truck gets on scene, that's when your brilliant little plan goes wrong because

                  1. - I can't tow a 32' motor home with my light-duty tow truck, no, I'm not going to try, it won't work. Yes, we do have a truck that can do it, but it wasn't sent because that's not the vehicle we were expecting.

                  2. -I'm here for the 97' Taurus Wagon bearing the following VIN, yes, they make us verify VINs, no I won't "make an exception" or "do something" about that. ANd even if I could and would, see above

                  3. - You have a good day now sir, I'm logging this as a GOA, which means I get paid for my mileage it took for me to come out here and you get nothing, in the future, don't lie to people.
                  - They say nothing good happens at 2AM, they're right, I happen at 2AM.

I got a great shot of my MGB GT being put onto a flatbed back in July Seriously though, I wasn't even sure if AAA could handle it...simply because of the car's lack of ground clearance. It took some doing, but the flatbed they sent took the car no problem. Granted, the bed had to be nearly level with the ground...
