well it works for my coworkers... they've never done their job before and now they're embarrassed to ask how to do it properly now... so they just ignore it and management doesn't have a spine to make them go away...

I just remembered another line from the comments:

I can understand maybe forgetting to pay a phone bill, but your rent?! That's kinda important. As far as being embarrassed, what'd she think we'd do? Post her picture on our website for all to see?

Sadly enough I've experienced this myself for several things that weren't as important as rent. (sigh). It's not logical. It's not a good idea. It's not an intelligent decision. And yet, if you're anxious or apprehensive about dealing with something... trying to ignore it and focus on other things is one possible response.

Good that they had to deal with the consequences of their actions... hard lessons are sometimes needed to change bad behaviour.

There ARE people who are genuinely like that.

I knew my ex roomate wasn't an only child after all. There had to be another child to balance his point of view, aka "I'm not here enough to use the water and electricity and my bed, therefore I will not pay for it. HA!"

I just knew there was another, even dumber, member in his family.

I have to admit that I've been guilty of this.

I write only one cheque a month, and that's for rent. At the time, I was working 6 days a week with some strange hours, and I simply forgot.

Needless to say, once I got the reminder note, they were paid immediately.
