Maybe they should change the profit margin on the kids menu.
There's few ways to change a profit margin on an item to the positive.
    1) Charge more. That's what they're doing, but in specific cases.
    2) Change suppliers to one able to offer the same for cheaper. Really frakking hard to do that.
    3) Lower the quality in some fashion, either smaller portions, worse ingredients, lower prep times by pre-making, things like that.

So really, they don't have an option. Charge extra for people ordering off a menu not meant for them, losing money, or jacking up prices for the people meant to be ordering off that menu, and driving away business.

I agree that an adult should probably pay a slight fee for ordering off the childrens menu if all they want is a smaller portion. But there are legitimate reasons some adults need to use the childrens menu or pay the childrens price at a buffet. I have a relative who had gastric bypass surgery and she simply can't eat much. To order a full meal would be a waste if she isn't able to take some home or if there isn't anyone to share with. She has a card from her doctor as well and should be allowed to order off the childrens menu with no penalties. When she's out with us we all just share with her but it doesn't always work that way. If my son is with us he'll order her meal and she'll order his.

I COULD be wrong, but often folk have gastric bypasses mainly because of chronic obesity? Maybe ordering off the smaller menu prior to the operation would have negated the need for the operation in the 1st place. (just my $0.02)

You know what you just did? You just not only derailed the thread, but you took the thread off the tracks with your bare hands, superhero style (Captain Tactless, perhaps?), completely missed the point of what was being said, and started sticking your nose in the windows of the thread, disturbing and shocking the poor passengers within. That's us.

The reason for surgery has NOTHING to do with the point being made and you have no right making assumptions like that.

And that is why we have a report button.

*EDIT - Whoops. Mike and I were posting at the same time.

Yay! The thread is back! Now I can post this lovely gem:

                    Swordsman's oh-so-lovely and sweet, non-malicious girlfriend [/sarcasm], had a roommate we will call "K".

K was quite...er...hefty(plz don't get mad at me) and not the brightest crayon either(nothing to do with her being hefty). There was a lot of drama centered around this girl and her house-mates. One instance in particular sticks out in my head. Keep in mind that K wasn't very popular with her roomies for several other reasons, so the blame just automatically fell to her.

Swordsman's GF bought a big tub of butter one weekend. A couple days later, she opened the tub of butter to discover *ahem* "paw marks" in the butter. As if someone took their bare hand(or paw in this case) and swiped some butter off the top.

His GF talked to her other roomies about it(when she should have talked to K, but I digress) and came to the conclusion that it was K. So, his GF bought more butter, but left a note on top that said, "None for you fat ass". Nice. Didn't I tell you she was lovely?

Anyway, the point of the story is that SOMEONE in that house ATE BUTTER WITH THEIR BARE HANDS! Like, half a tub of it! Who cares who it was, that's so gross!!!

I believe that the point is that these meals are designed for children (smaller portions) and are also being sold for much less profit (if any) than the adult meals, the idea being that the adults with the children will order platters, or larger meals. The lack of profit from the Kid's Menu is compensated for by the profit on the adult meals.

Exactly, SC. That's what The Restaurant does to make money off of these smaller kids portions. Actually, since I posted this originally, they upped the amount extra from a dollar to two dollars for any adult that orders off the childrens' menu.

And Gabrielle, YIKES. Someone ate a whole half a tub of butter?!?!?! If I were one of the roommates, I think I'd be torn between angry and impressed. That's a mighty feat for one person's stomach to handle...I feel a little ill just thinking about it. Ewwwwwwwwwwwwww....
