  • NO LONGER AVAILABLE = WE'RE RIPPING YOU OFF

This happened several years ago and I just thought of it. Where I worked at the time we had these pocket torches. The way it worked is that it used a regular disposable butane lighter that you put in the handle and you had a small torch for brazing, soldering, etc. We also sold the replacement lighters. When the law was passed that all lighters had to be child proof, the new style would not work. You see where this is going.

    m: me
    nmtg: no more torch guy

nmtg: I don't see the replacement lighters for the pocket torch.
m: Oh, I'm sorry those are no longer available.
nmtg: WHAT DO YOU MEAN NO LONGER AVAILABLE!
m: Well, (explain what has happened).
nmtg: THIS IS A RIP OFF!
m: I'm sorry sir but it is beyond our control.
nmtg: WELL, WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO ABOUT THIS?
m: There's not really anything I can do.
    nmtg: I SHOULD SUE YOU!
m: I guess you would have to sue the government, because they are the ones who made the law.
nmtg: WELL I GUESS THIS IS WORTHLESS NOW! (Throws torch on floor and walks out)

The thing about this guy is that I sold him the torch over a year before, and he had been in several times and bought refills. He had over a years use and the torch only cost like $15.00 to begin with.

You mean the kind you burn sugar with for creme brulee? Mine works with the childproof lighters still. My SO "modifies" the lighter somehow and it works almost as good as the old style.
Shame he tossed his away - a little determination and a pair of pliers his problem would have been solved. Or he would have blown up his hand...

He probably could have if he found the right size lighter and modified it. The only lighter we had were the ones for this torch and they couldn't supply them anymore.

One of the "hot sellers" we have at our store is Dynamo detergent..we usually run a Buy One Get Two Free special about once a month. Several months ago they switched over to a 2X concentrated formula. Our ad, which was made up several weeks prior to the sale dates, listed regular or 2X concentrate. One woman came up to the Service Desk wanting the regular version. I called the Grocery TL and he told me we didn't have any...that it had been discontinued by the manufacturer. Well, the woman went crazy..."that is false advertising...if you have it in your ad you should have it to sell! I'm calling the Better Business Bureau and the TV stations!" I explained to her that we had no way of getting any because the manufacturer no longer made it, but the 2X was the same thing it was just concentrated so you weren't paying for the water. She insisted that the 200oz regular version listed more loads per bottle than the 100 oz 2X concentrate, and that we were ripping people off! My manager came out and tried to explain it to her and she just kept on throwing the fit, complaining loudly to anyone in earshot that our store was commiting fraud and false advertising (I'm surprised she didn't throw in "Bait and Switch"). She finally left the Service Desk but stopped everyone she saw and told them her sad tale, and ran into the Store Director in Charge near the doors and told HIM everything.

Geez lady, I'll buy you a jug of water and let you add it to the 2X detergent if you are so fond of watery laundry soap!
