Yay! My first 'wherein' post
THis one was relayed to me by a close personal friend whom I have helped a time or 2 at the store.
<BS> Friend owns a small marina / general store in a fairly remote location. For the purpose of this story, they leave an extremely limited supply of cash after 5:00 pm basically a $25 float. $15 is usually all that is in the till as far as paper money. </BS>
So the time is 8:20 and nice and dark, a rather grubby individual enters the store. Being in a remote area, my friend did not really know what to look for in order to define a suspicious character. Grubby Guy, herein GG, is fidgety, and restless as the clerk is dealing with a current customer. Once the customer leaves, my friend asks if he can help GG. GG then asks to change a $20, which he sets down on the counter, to be able to use the phone. Friend was about to inform the guy of the limited float, and perhaps lend GG a quarter to use the phone, but just as the till is opened to demonstrate lack of funds, GG then pulls out a knife, and demands the contents of the till.
So friend hands the guy the $15 in the till, and GG takes off like a bat out of hell, out the store and down the highway. GG left the $20 on the counter. So now the store got paid $5 to be robbed. Police did not show up for 2 days because they thought the person reporting the crime was playing a joke, as they were laughing hysterically during the report to 911. When Police finally showed up, they were able to determine who it was as they had someone in custody that had the same MO and matched descriptions, however we were the first and only place that the guy forgot his $20 bait.
Somedays being in Customer Service just plain rocks!
