Gah, I hate hate hate Entitlement Whores

Got a good one today... we have signs at the front desk clearly stating that all shuttles are by reservation only... now if there is a space on the shuttle we'll bend that rule and let you on... however, if it's full... guess what, no shuttle for you. So of course I get this call at 6:15

Me- front desk, how may I help you?
EW- yeah, when's the next shuttle?
Me- the next shuttle with space on it will be at 8am.
EW- what, I thought they ran every half hour.
Me- yes they do, but 6:30, 7, and 7:30 already have all their space reserved.
EW- well, my flights at 7:15 so I absolutely must be on the 6:30 shuttle (side note... you aint making your flight anyway)
Me- well, there are 2 children on the shuttle, if their parents agree to let them share a seat we may be able to squeeze you in (really bending the rules there, but it will get me off the phone)
EW- wait, if they agree. just tell them that their kids have to share a seat.
Me- I'm sorry, but that is a decision the parent has to make. And even if they do agree to it, it is the shuttle driver's ultimate decision on whether or not to allow additional passengers on the van.
EW- well if there isn't space you can just pay for my cab.
Me- if you had reserved space and we overbooked, yes we would, but you did not reserve space so if you chose to take a cab before the next available schedule it would be your responsibility to pay the cab, not ours (and the cabbies know to never take a guests word that we're paying for it... they confirm with us).
EW- well if it makes any difference, I'm a local celebrity in Arizona.
Me- and I've never heard of you... so that doesn't help much.
EW- fine I'll be there at 6:30, those parents had better agree to have their kids share a seat.

and the part that pissed me off... the parents agreed to it... so this guy got exactly what he wanted out of being an entitlement whore

See, I wouldn't even have suggested having the kids share a seat. It's probably not safe anyway, and it let's the EW get his way.

Is it evil that I hope he arrived just as they were closing the flight and was such an ass to the counter agents that he got a standby slot on the 7:15PM flight? Or even better, they promised him standby on each next available flight only to take it away each time which assured he had to sit at gates all day.

Wow.. I had heard the McCain campaign was strapped for cash.. but that's a little extreme.

Being from AZ myself, please allow me to apologize on the state's behalf, but for what it's worth I'd never heard of him either.

Well this isn't Arizona. So that doesn't mean a damn thing to me.

And no I would have not suggested the kids share a seat because if the shuttle was involved in an accident and one or both kids were injured. Guess what, those parents would have been bitching and threatening lawsuit against the hotel. Because their story would have been how they felt like they were coerced into having their kids share a seat by the hotel employees so that they could squeeze one more body into the shuttle, and if their kids had of been in their own seat they wouldn't have been injured...yadda...yadda...yadda...

So do I. And being a local celebrity can include being a male stripper.

yes it was... but I was REALLY hoping the parents would say no way in hell... I know I would have if it were my kids (if I had kids)...

...I get this call at 6:15

He's calling at 6:15... To get on the 6:30 shuttle... To catch a flight that leaves at 7:15... From Salt Lake City International... On a weekday morning? Not likely!

If airport traffic is what it usually is at that time of day (I have flown out that early once or twice), and if smileyeagle's hotel is in the business area where I think it is (street names of famous aviators), I don't imagine it takes the shuttle any less than ten minutes to get passengers from that parking lot to the terminal entrances. That puts the guy at 6:40. Then he has to check in. Even at those self-check terminals, that's usually another 10 minutes of waiting, he's at 6:50. I swear SLC times their security station so it takes anyone at any time of day about 15-20 minutes to get through. That's 7:10. I guess he could make it if he pulled his EW moves at the airport and demanded that someone hold the plane for him and if his gate was in one of the closer terminals (B and C, I think, are the closest to the security checkpoints).

Time to bring out the trusty old "Lack of planning on your part..." line.

Don't they always say "Arrive at the airport 90 minutes prior to departure" to go through security and all that other happy horseshit that goes along with air travel these days?

                              Fail. That is all.
