OR, How the shuttle driver pwned an SC.

This sadly didn't happen on my shift, I only heard about it second hand. This guy needed to be taken to the greyhound depot to catch a bus. First thing he did was come down half an hour before he left and started harassing the shuttle driver about there not being cookies ready yet, shuttle driver calmly explains that he just started baking them, it is going to be a while before they are ready. Guy comes down 15 minutes later demanding to know why the cookies weren't out, shuttle driver explains there is still a few minutes left to bake and then they'd have to cool down. The shuttle driver even went as far as to put some of the cooling cookies in the fridge to cool them faster. Our SC when he comes back goes to the desk person and says "I don't want to deal with that asshole you have running the kitchen today, can you go get some of the cookies I know had to have been ready a while ago for me" So, the front desk girl goes, grabs him his oh so important cookies.
Fast forward 5 minutes from that point, guy goes to the desk and says "I'm ready for my shuttle, are you driving it". Front desk person says, "nope, our shuttle driver over there is going to be driving you today... and before you protest, he's the only person here right now authorized to operate the shuttle"
SC begrudgingly gets in the shuttle with the really cool shuttle driver, shuttle driver turns on the news on the radio, SC gets upset because "it's not the right station" tells the shuttle driver to change it to (some really annoying rock station), so the shuttle driver just turned off the radio and told the SC "I'm sorry, I don't like that music, if you don't like the news station I'll turn it off"
At this point the SC blows up on the guy "do you have a problem with me? or are you an asshole to all your guests"... at this point our hero pulls over to the side of the road next to a bus stop, points to the sign and says "you can either take the 517 which runs every half hour, stops right at Greyhound, costs $2.50, or take the 217 to 200 west and transfer to either TRAX line at Temple Square going towards the Intermodal hub, that runs every 15 minutes and costs the same, either way I'm not required to put up with abusive guests, so get out of my van"
Needless to say SC gets pissed, yells threats of getting the guy fired, yadda yadda, I never heard the exact conversation, but long story short, SC ends up getting out of the van... he actually called the hotel demanding to speak with the manager on duty... MOD had already been contacted by shuttle driver and told what happened, so the MOD told the guy "I'm so terribly sorry to hear how he handled that... he should have also given you the phone number for a cab company if you didn't want to wait for the bus"
Ah, another satisfied customer (oh, and this is another one of those, yeah, we didn't provide as good of service as we could because everyone hates the contract that guy was staying on... the GM intentionally placed a high bid for the rate hoping they wouldn't take it... unfortunately everyone else placed even higher bids because no one wants to deal with them because so many of their employees are EWs and SCs).

Friggn cookies! I dispise them! I had had people yelled, begged, screamed about our damn cookies. They are an extra little thing that have turned into a required item. Even after 10pm, mostly after midnight, "Where are the cookies!? Make some more for me!!!!"

Our old mainteance guy/shuttle driver had to make someone get out of the shuttle once. I can't recall why. That maintenance guy was kinda a dick to everyone, though. So, it was prolly his own issue.

In EQ's hotel, there should be a sign that says "Entitlement Whores will be told to leave and never come back." A sign we don't have in our hotel, that should be in EQ's, "We are entitiled or refuse service to anyone." That one should be right beside the EW one. lol yay We generally don't refuse service all that often because we don't need to. But, there have been times I wish I coulda told someone to leave or the police will have them leave...

On slow days, nothing is more entertaining that watching the various reactions guests have upon seeing the freshly baked cookies.

-Going up to the plate and taking a good whiff, but not actually taking any
      -"OOOOH COOKIES!!"
-At 8pm: Where are all the cookies? I bet you ate them all.
-Grabbing a cookie while handling the registration paperwork. I end up with chocolate smudges on that one
-And only very occasionally, those people who walk by and grab a cookie without the need to bring attention to themselves. And if they do bring attention to themselves, all it is to say "thank you."
To right the countless wrongs of our days... We shine this light of true redemption, that this place may become as paradise...Oh, what a wonderful world such would be...

Oh, Mr Hero, you bring up one of my pet peeves... the people who ask "oh are these cookies for guests to eat" ... "no, they're for decoration only... here's your sign"

hahahah I get that last one too! And with the popcorn & pretty much anything in the lobby computer, microwave etc. I have actually said, "Yeah we find people don't like being taunted with the cookies just sitting there and we tell them they are decoration only."

I think people ask perhaps because I have actually seen people bring pizzas in for their group & sit in the lobby eating them & other people clearly not in group try to steal pizza or ask me if it's for guests to take.

Oh & what is with the guests who shove an entire cookie in their mouth at checkin & then proceed to answer questions about the reservation by spitting cookie at me?? Most people are polite, but some people apparently think I deserve being spit at cuz they don't seem to care.

The wonder of being in an industry where most of your customers are one-time customers.

Now if you'll excuse me I have to get back to my all-important sleeping.

I've stayed in lots of hotels all over the US....and Bahamas...but never saw cookies in the lobby. Now, when I walk in and see apples, I'm like "Wow! Apples!!" "May I have one, please?" And the clerk always looks surprised that I actually asked first.

well Hopie, first we're surprised because no one actually asks first (unless they're being idiots )

and you haven't seen cookies because you've never staid at either Hippie or my hotel

Wow! The magnitude of the sheer suckiness implied by this is overwhelming. Businesses HIGHballing to avoid customers? No chance you can tell us who this company is, is there? Maybe when their contract's up. Unless you lose, erh, uh, win? it again.

unfortunately no, I can't tell you... sense we're the only hotel willing tostuck with dealing with them if I told you it would give away where I work and get me in a lot of trouble for badmouthing one of our (unfortunately) large contracts online. And probably going to have it renewed indefinitely... why, because we need the revenue.

                              Ugh, the old Cookie deal.

We bake cookies in the morning, and people complain that they are hard. At, like, 9pm! Of COURSE they're hard! They've been out all day.

The benefit is that whoever makes the cookies gets to snag one or two. ^_~
