  • Black Friday Debriefing Thread 2008

All right, this is the place for all the retail grunts here to tell us what went down in their stores on Black Friday.

I just got done watching the World's Dumbest Shoppers on TruTV. I sincerely hope that isn't a preview of coming attractions.

Agreed. Best of luck to all y'all in the big-box world that have to be at work tomorrow at an ungodly hour. May the suck be merry and light.

We deal with the tourists who want to come play in the snow on black Friday but this year there's not enough snow. (so I don't have to go in tomorrow) I'll never forget the year it took 3 hours to drive 10 miles due to all the traffic.

I'm doing my black Friday shopping online. Sleeping in, morning coffee and overstock.com.

God speed to you, Retail Workers. I'll be working tomorrow, but at a Go Kart place, it's unlikely we'll be too busy.

All our SCs will be coming for you.

I don't mind it. You blink and the day is over.

I'm afraid to go to work in a few minutes, people take any excuse to forget how to drive, sales being one of them. I've already almost witnessed quite a few accidents at my intersection since I'm on the side of the road with the accursed sign all day, and I don't want to get hit!

THANKS for mentioning that. I just logged in and bought my mother-in-law a lovely venetian glass necklace! Phew--that's done.

I've been at work for an hour. Until five minutes ago, I was the only person in the newsroom. One reporter just showed up. I've had one phone call all morning and that was another coworker calling in sick (she really is sick, she has walking pneumonia, ew).

So I've dragged the police scanner over to my desk to listen in. So far, going by the police lingo and our cop reporter's translation guide (and this is at nine in the morning here)...

                            Three traffic accidents, one severe.
One abandoned child, naked except for a diaper in the Wal-mart.
One emergency to Target for someone fainting.
                            Two fistfights, not sure where.
One report of a man and woman fighting over a Guitar Hero controller and the woman apparently giving it to the guy somewhere in the crotchal region, again, not sure where.
And one HATE CRIME. Yes. There has been a hate crime over shopping.

Which makes me ever so glad to be bored.

                            Edit: And one trampling injury.

Wow--I never thought about how busy the cops are on Black Friday. A moment of silence...
