  • Quickly becoming my biggest pet peeve

Members call for service. They request "call outs" meaning they want us to call them when the driver is near or on location. Then, when we do call them - they don't answer or, my all time favorite, answer and hang up on us. My theory is because their caller ID shows an 800 number, they figure we are telemarketers or something.

This morning I got another winner...

The first time I tried to call...it rang and rang and rang. I tried again and it rang a few times then went dead. I called back and this time a lady answered, barked "YOU HAVE THE WRONG NUMBER" and before I could say anything...hung up on me.

The driver even tried to call her and she didn't answer.

    She's waiting for service...in the cold...requests that we call...then doesn't answer...

The driver only waits 15 mins when we can't get in touch with the member. I told him to not wait a minute more.

If he doesn't find her - and she calls back - I'm willing to bet she'll be pissed off and her call will be placed as a priority.

And, of course, she'll blame you!

At this very second, we're waiting for some appliances to be delivered. I was told to expect a call from the delivery people early this morning to let us know the time they'll be arriving.

Sure enough, it's a 1-800 #. Since I've been hassled lately by our friendly cable company trying to upsell me on the "if you don't go digital, you'll lose your service in February (NOT - only if you have bunny ears (TV with antennae, not a cute costume ) so I don't pick up 800 #'s.

However, I know enough to call back and was directed to the appropriate area right quick and was able to arrange the time for the delivery.

BTW - I have tried to have the cable company stop calling, but since we've only just got the new call prohibit north of the border, there seem to be a few glitches to be worked out.

Yah - no more scorched cookies!

I got switched on my duties and I was unable to know if she called back or not. Most of the time, when they call back in pissed off about not getting service and find out that we tried to call them because its documented as such....they get the most defeated tone to their voice and their mean streak stops.

Being suddenly enlightened to the fact that they're a blithering idiot will do that to people. Unfortunately, the effect always seems only temporary.

'Bout damn time too. Hey, head to ioptout.ca to get your number off of OTHER call lists too. (Canadian DNC list excludes research groups, charities, and political parties. I Opt Out is supposed to put your number on their DNC lists.)

Thank goodness though for caller ID. Makes life sooo much easier.
